I love them. I bought Eye of the Tiger on vinyl when it came out. I also love Premonition, Caught in the Game, and Vital Signs.

    Brilliant band!

All of the albums up to and including Too Hot To Sleep are just excellent. Great songs and two of the best singers in rock.

Not really a Survivor album, I suppose but Empires (credited to Jimi Jamison's Survivor) is fab as well.

Not so keen on Reach but there are a few decent songs.

Here's how I would rate their albums:

    5/5

    1. When Seconds Count
    2. Premonition
    3. Vital Signs
    4. Eye Of The Tiger
    5. Caught In The Game

    4/5

    6. Emipres
    7. Too Hot To Sleep
    8. S/T

    2/5

    9. Reach

I'm not a major fan but they have a few songs that I enjoy such as "Poor Man's Son", ""The One That Really Matters", and "I Can't old Back".

It might sound cheesy now, but my high school girlfriend adapted this as our theme song. And for you youngsters....Paul Blart Mall Cop did not bring me there. :D Yes, it's still a great song after all these years.

When Seconds Count is a prime piece of 80s synth rock.

Not bad if you like that sort of thing. A friend of mine and I always used to use "Eye of the Tiger" as a rhythmic reference when rehearsing a song of ours that basically used the same rhythm as that song's intro.

Vital Signs is one of my favorite albums of the early/mid 80's. Was fortunate to see them at Mohegan Sun with Jimi and Bickler , shortly before Jimi's untimely death.

Of course everybody knows the 38 Special hit. But for anyone who isn't aware, the song "Rockin' into the Night" was written by Survivor members Gary Smith, Frank Sullivan, and Jim Peterik and was originally intended to be on their first record, but producer Ron Nevison felt the song wasn't quite right for the record and was nixed. The songs rough mix was given to 38 Special and as they say the rest is history.

This was the new song they put on their Greatest Hits cd back in 1993. Usually putting a new song on a Greatest Hits doesn't always work, but I thought this one was very understated and had a nice Chicago/CSNY '80's vibe to it.

Great band. I am a big fan and have all the albums. Too Hot To Sleep is a very underrated gem of an album.

Never heard this before, It's very different but it works really well.

Do you know the line-up here. I'm not even sure of the lead singer. Sounds a bit more like Dave than Jimi but with all those lush harmonies, it's hard to tell. It sounds nothing like Robin Macauley who's in the accompanying picture and I'm pretty certain he joined the band a lot later in any event.

    Intriguing.... yet rather wonderful. :)

The tiny liner notes which are pretty hard to read) say, Dave on lead vocals, Jim on keyboards and vocals, and Frankie Sullivan on guitar and vocals. Bass is Klem Hayes and drum programming Jeff Boyle. This again is from Survivor Greatest Hits released in 1993.

A local DJ just said that Stallone tried to license a Queen song for Rocky III, but was turned down, and then hired Survivor to write the theme music, thus, Eye of the Tiger. Anyone else heard this story?

Yes, I think I have. Not 100% certain but I reckon that Jim Peterik mentions this in his autobiography.

    And with many others including:

    The Beach Boys
    Henry Paul Band
    Blackhawk
    Sammy Hagar
    REO Speedwagon

Mr Peterik is nothing if not prolific. Apparently he's currently writing an album with Dennis de Young which should be interesting.

No, but I'm guessing the song was "We Are The Champions"?
