I've found heaps of great jazz via Bandcamp, and actually came across Valley Of Search on the site. Unfortunately due to the high shipping costs to Australia, I ended up ordering the vinyl in from Amazon.
Look forward to playing it when it arrives.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: these Japanese pressings with the SMJ prefix were absolutely wonderful, I imported loads of them (along with King's Blue Notes) back in the day. That said, I can't say Ron Carter's cello playing is a joy to listen to... He should have stuck with bass.

Are the tracks 5-22 stereo? Are they mixed with added reverb?

  7. Stereo.

I doubt if reverb was added although I cannot be certain as I have never heard any other edition. Either way, this CD release does sound great!

    Sleeve note information states-

Couldn't agree more, I think these SMJ pressings, especially the first pressing with deep groove and flip-back cover, are first rate and on par with with the best original pressings or digital versions I've heard.

I have to disagree on the cello matter, though: I really like it. But tastes differ, right (and we tend to agree much more often than not).

Nice compilation. I own all five volumes of Jazz et Cinema released as the serie Jazz in Paris. Lovely views of Paris in the age of the recordings, mainly the 50's and the early 60's.

Though I have another edition, the Blakey section sounds fantastic. This should be superb, too.

I never understood why Gitanes Productions altered the superb original artwork. Those are not bad photographied, but on the whole they make the CDs look and feel cheap.

Well, jazz fans may hate the Gitanes’artwork, however casual (and wider) listeners may prefer it.

This album works in so many ways. It really does work as a Billie Holiday tribute album, and this from a guy who really doesn't get excited about tribute albums. And it really is a fine contemporary jazz album. And it sounds so beautiful on a great system. . . .

You're welcome. Again, if you have the chance to get the Mosaic for a reasonable price, grab it, you won't regret it - unless you already have most of the stuff, of course :)

I almost pulled the trigger on the Mosaic but chose to go for the individual albums. I also have Motor City Scene (United Artists), so I guess the Mosaic would be redundant.
