Guess Carsey-Werner just made a swap with Roseanne.

No they didn’t. Night Court is in Roseanne’s old time slot.

I worked on the original many years ago, on and off. I hope that they remastered it all for 16x9 HD (as we did with That '70s Show). Really terrific series, very nice people to work with.

What was it like meeting the cast?

I'm strictly a post guy and only met the editors and producers each week. But when you see thousands of hours of dailies, you get a pretty good sense of how the actors are, and they were all solid people.

If they were in the building, I never met them. I did meet the Miller-Milkis people, but Carsey/Werner were way, way high on the showbiz ladder -- they had "people" who dealt with post, and so they rarely came in for editing and color sessions. I did meet Bonnie Turner (pretty high-up in Carsey/Werner) but I believe we generally worked with Jason Venokur on Third Rock, and I knew the late DP Ron Browne very well in those days.

A friend of mine knew Marcie Carsey pretty well when she was an NBC exec -- he told me that, unlike most comedy execs, Carsey was actually very funny herself, great sense of humor, and really appreciated and understood good writing.

    My thoughts:

    • I'm not a fan of French Stewart and his character, thought he was too nasally.
    • John Lithgow is really a funny actor and had the best lines in the episodes I watched.

Channel 4 re-run it every now and again on weekday mornings. I bought the deleted complete box set last week for £30. I'm currently midway through season one. It's an underrated show here in the UK. I rarely hear anyone mention it.

A friend gifted me with a set of video discs, DVDs I think, with all the episodes. '3rd Rock' really cracks me up! I tell people that when the show concluded, TV died for me. I haven't owned a TV set in many years.

An unfair comparison I'm sure, but I've heard that 'Big Bang Theory' is hilarious. Well, I watched an episode with my girlfriend recently and simply couldn't get into it. To me, its zingers weren't potent at all; Not like those in '3rd Rock'! Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I thought French Stewart was great in that show. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything else.

You may have, and not recognized him. He looks different with his eyes open. :)
