Hi guys I recently upgrade my Maverick D! DAC with the Sparkos Labs opamps, Mav DAC in its original state with basic upgrades, like BB opamps and GE JAN tubes had ok performance, but it never satisfied me at all, after I did try the Sparkos opamps the story turns different, also I found lot of DCC issued files on line also MFSL realizes, also much files with 24 bits, so this keeps me using the computer more and more, also all my cds are inside my iTunes, I use to rip cds iTunes and recently XDL, for my cd drive is a SONY CDP C79 ES, this last have been selected after try many other models, this sony turns to be most natural sound of all, it is funny but all the cds I have try using the same DAC they did not provide me with good sound, I have another SONY X339ES(witch turns to be the worst), a NEC with TDA1541 (and coax output) and a small TEAC reference unit with optical output, the Sony C79es turns the best, so now the issue is, what sounds better, the CD player thought the DAC or iTunes thought the DAC??, I have try both playing the same file on a burned CD, so the CD player is not as bright as the itunes playback, the cd sounds more natural with less highs and have more mids, I can compare the sound to a tube amp, solid and dark sound (pls note that only the Sony c79es do this), iTunes sounds bright kind better detail, WHAT IS THE BEST FOR YOU??, I am pretty much to tell that USB/iTunes is doing better performance, BUT, there is no much upgrade to the CD playback, with iTunes I can still gte a USB audio cable (actually I use a super cheap one), I hear that IFI jitter filter is superb, not to mention that is better players than iTunes, I don't know what else I can do to the computer to have better performance from then, I use Apple iMac, I need to find out what upgrade the computer can have to perform better....can you tell, what is the best option for you if you use a DAC?, iTunes or CD?......

Purely guessing as I'm only a CD player directly through my system, but I would think that CD would always give you better results than an altered iTunes file.

iTunes is for me the closest sound to the CD in fact, I have use VOX and other that I not remember well the name of the player, but they color the sound too much, I like cds very much but the problem is, I am using a 30 year old cd player, I like that cd player but to find this particual one took me to spend and buy almost 6 cd players, the one I actually have in use can broke any moment, so, I will not spend more money to find another cd that I like, so the iTunes option and future upgrades to my computer is what I will do in the future....
