Wow... Who would have thought a thread here about a modern artist possibly outshining The Old Gold would have gone this way ?
    Everybody. That's who.

Drake's gone and ruined the Beatles for everybody. What a stinker.

So there's no contest between someone you've never even heard, and The Beatles / Miles Davis etc.

    This stuff just writes itself.

I can say without any hesitation, without hearing a note of her music, that that is the case.

Drake hasn’t “ruined” The Beatles for me.

In my post, I just explained that chart record positions, from The 1960’s,
and how they are assessed and evaluated -
are very different from those of Today.

That’s factual, and void of any sentimental emotion.

Just curious and did not read the entire thread nor research this question.

If this chart success is based largely on streaming is their any way to know if that was not somehow programmed/bots rather then actual people?

I'm not that much younger than you but you just lost any cool points you hoped were remaining. I'm sure you lawn looks incredible. It's not that young people don't know what good music is. It's just that their idea of good music isn't yours...and there's not a thing wrong with that. The music that's out there today is good; you're just out of touch with it. Your parents thought the music that was on the radio when we were younger was total crap. They were wrong...and you are too.

He actually died some years back, I think most of the others are still around.

Yeah, they just had different ways of gaming the charts back then. But they were gaming the charts back then. There is nothing new under the sun. Including that cool organ riff on Hotline Bling...

I've been car pooling with my son recently, so when he's driving he controls the music. Actually very impressed that he managed to have some tunes that I outright dislike.

A bit of an eye opener that his Pop isn't all that open-minded after all, but is my music better than his? Of course not. This is HIS music, not mine. When I'm dead and gone he'll wax nostalgic about these tunes like I do about The Beatles or The Smiths today.

Oh, I’m not venturing down that rabbit hole....

(Let’s just mention the rumour/fact about Brian Epstein buying all those singles to increase chart position...? )

....especially since this thread is NOT titled,
“Do You Remember When the Billboard Charts Were Trustworthy???”

Let’s see where he is 5 years from now and maybe I’ll be impressed. A huge amount of music today is disposable. A lot of artists from 5-10 years ago have already been forgotten. The Beatles are forever.

Billboard says that Adele's 21 album is the best selling album ever because of the amount it sold for its time. Billboard has to make a list where The Beatles will have the advantage on a singles list, based on what they did back then.

That doesn't mean that he hasn't been successful or that he isn't good. It simply means you haven't heard of him.
