I actually liked some of his stuff and I see your point about that. Not bad but no Jimi IMO.

The very definition of shallow soul, I.M.H.O. (And y'all know how shallow is the opposite of deep - for those familiar with the term "deep soul.") Laden with narcissistic navel-gazing and superficial veener and posturing and affectation. Beyond that, there's really no 'there' there.

But it's got a nice, downbeat vibe . And you can dance to it. If by "dancing" you mean drinking a lot of cough syrup and just kinda shuffling around mumbling...

And that’s what gets my goat. He’s not even the next Marvin Gaye much less the Beatles. The headline has been popping up on my phones news feed and I intentionally avoided it because I knew it would tick me off. Then I came here........
What I don’t like is the disingenuousness of it. Not at all the same feat as ‘64. Just hype.

I'll take the source - "Why Can't We Live Together" by Timmy Thomas - T.Y.V.M.

Whatever . . . I seem to recall a similar argument some 21 years ago when the gazillion selling rewrite of "Candle In The Wind" by Elton John made after Princess Di's death exceeded total sales over a then-55 year period of Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."

Yes, yes... please refer to post #214. Completely different melodically and lyrically and he has made no secret that they sampled that great organ bit. Fun fact : the rest of that Timmy Thomas album isn't very good.

Examining this thread, I noticed two people - you and another - brought up the clip of Mr. Thomas' record.

Meanwhile, fewer and fewer companies control more and more of the record business. Connection, perhaps? Back in The Beatles' day, there were far more places to go. Now, it's basically Sony, Warners' and Universal.

Why does {new artist } have to be the next {classic artist} in order to have credibiity here ? You've already got/had those classic artists and if anyone else could be the next Marvin Gaye or who ever, then what would be so special about Marvin Gaye? Plus, even if we decide to go down that road, all it leads to is karaoke acts like Bruno Mars and Greta Van Fleet. I'll pass. Why can't Drake just be the first Drake ?

To you. I hear the kids kinda like him. Quite a bit, actually. Even some of us old fellas don't mind him.

I don’t care what kids like. I don’t care about Drake. I do care when the media cheapens the Beatles achievements with false and misleading headlines that what he achieved somehow equals or surpasses what the Beatles did. It is false and misleading. They either knew that when they wrote it or were too lazy to fully research the subject.

    How about top 6?

On April 11, the below songs by The Beatles were the Top 6 in Australia:

‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ — number 1
‘She Loves you / I’ll Get You’ — number 2
‘Love Me Do / I Saw Her Standing There’ — number 1
‘Roll Over Beethoven / Hold Me Tight’ — number 1
‘All My Loving’ — number 1
‘Twist And Shout’ — number 5
