My friend that is not rich is thinking about it. A gentleman out of Hong Kong will fly over to the US and buy a plane seat for the amps and fly back. My friend stated he watched this buyer pay $30K for a LP, so he does not care about money.
Anyways, would you sell the amps for $100K?

No, but it would pay over 1/2 of the new house he wants to build.

If it's only paying for half of the house you need to double the price.

Such a person is bound to be flying in Business or First Class.
That's an expensive plane seat for an amplifier or two.

Also, it'll be against regulations since they can't be properly secured.
So.... despite the fact that I'm a tad skeptical of the story, SELL!

  10. I assume these are the lauded WE amps like the 92a or some such. I would sell them in a hot minute. He could get something with as good, probably better sonics with 10 or 20% of that money and use the rest for his house.

A house for 200K? Not where I live. If I could buy a house for 200K I could afford a lot better audio equipment.

House is in Ohio. Kind of cheap there vs say Manhattan, NY.

For $100k I’d do seriously bad things.

    Like seriously diabolical.

If he as owned them for a while and feel like he has enjoyed his journey with them, then it's clearly time to sell.

I am also slightly skeptical of the "plane seat for the amps" story.

People with money do this and especially overseas as they do not trust mail handling and don't want valuable items out of their site for long.

I would certainly take them on the plane with me and would check them as baggage.

I do have a friend from the Gold Coast with scads of silly money who flew First Class to France for Christmas one year and paid for the adjacent seat for the Aussie lobsters he was taking to Chrissie dinner in St Moritz. But lobsters weigh less than WE amps, and the seat belt fits around the cooler.

Really rich people wouldn’t dream of flying commercial. At least that’s what I’ve been told.

  21. I sat next to a couple at a demo once. The guy’s SECOND system had Revel Salon 2’s in his Paris apartment:faint:. Once he found out I was a designer he was pumping me for all kinds of info. Anyway, $100k was nothing big to him. They were both really nice though

If I paid $100k for amplifiers, I would certainly prefer to pay a little extra and have them with me.

Two extra seats on a one way plane ticket, what's that worth for peace of mind?
