Pulled this one out last night, oh yes. The 27 minutes of "Geryon's Throne" is absolutley killer dooooooom.
The new Sleep is killer - I was a bit skeptical, but it really delivers. also really dig this new(ish) Elephant Tree on Magnetic Eye Records. It falls somewhere into the abyss between doom, Pink Floyd and maybe even Tool.
Also really like the new Somali Yacht Club that came up in a YouTube shuffle for me...more stoner than doom but some excellent guitar playing and textures, and definitely vocals that recall Meddle-era Pink Floyd
Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull Small batch of black vinyl (under 300?) available right now on Southern Lord: EARTH – The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull
Here's something that sort of fits this thread, Emptyset - Borders. It's electronics instead of rock instrumentation, but it's plenty heavy. Bandcamp: Borders, by Emptyset
How about some "avant-doom"? You know, something that on the surface sounds like an oddball doom metal, but upon a closer inspection turns out to be something utterly bizarre and unclassifiable... Asva - "Futurist's Against the Ocean" (2005) Futurist's Against The Ocean Angel - "Kalmukia" (2007) Kalmukia, by Angel PYLAR - "Poderoso se alza en my" (2013) Poderoso se alza en my, by PYLAR Bobby Previte - "Mass" (2016) Mass, by Bobby Previte
Carnivore always had real hammering doom sections. Type O Negative’s Suspended In Dusk is also a real doom hammer Type O Negative - Suspended In Dusk
Thank you for this. Excellent. Always great hearing from the cats themselves. Would love to see an interview with the Thergothon guys after all these years.
Finally some new Evoken coming 11/9 Tracklisting: "The Fear After" "Valorous Consternation" "Schadenfreude" "Too Feign Ebullience" "Hypnagogia" "Ceremony Of Bleeding" "Hypnopompic" "The Weald Of Perished Men" Evoken lineup on Hypnagogia: John Paradiso - vocals/guitar Chris Molinari - guitar Dave Wagner - bass Don Zaros - keyboards Vince Verkay - drums
the vocals on "funeral doom" just drive me potty, all that throaty phlegmy carry-on. Kind of spoils the music for me. Same as the cookie monster thing, ended up selling off my almost complete CORRUPTED collection because of it. Really bummed I can't get into that Bell Witch thing too due to the vocals. JESU seemed like totally my thing, bought all the cd's, but damn it got too miserable even for me. GOATSNAKE, so awesome, perfectly in my wheelhouse latest band to get me excited is SUMAC, damn why didnt anyone tell me the ISIS/Hydra head guy had a new band?
