    Interesting...

The surviving Monkees, Nesmith, Dolenz, and Peter Tork — Davy Jones died of a heart attack in 2012 — recorded a well-received comeback album, “Good Times!,” in 2016. True to form, Nesmith was not enthralled when the band asked him to take part in a follow-up, a Christmas album. But he relented, cutting two songs for the upcoming release, covers of “The Christmas Song” and “Snowfall,” the weird seasonal standard written by Claude Thornhill.

Mike Nesmith gets the old band back together (no, not that one) - The Boston Globe

I guess it is back to the individual members on a track formula.

Don Kirshner wins in the end.

  5. Curious but I'm happy to see Nez recording no matter what.

I guess it's good, but I know me, and I NEVER play Christmas records, even the good ones like Phil Spector's, Booker T's, and Elvis'. So that said, not that excited about this.

This might literally be the only time that I personally don't agree.

  9. Why? I'm always happy to have some new Nez even if it isn't ideal. I'm hoping this pushes him to do more recording.

    I can agree with that. But a Christmas record? I just...I can't even...I mean...seriously??

EDIT: I'll get back to you once I have a coherent statement. Right now I'm confused and underwhelmed.

  12. Well it's not the Xmas record that excites me but the possibility that it keeps him going.

I’m a HUGE Christmas music fan, so I’m happy. I understand your view and will say that if I had my choice, I would rather have a follow up to Good Times!, but really thankful thank they are still recording.

I'll say that I don't mind... as long as this isn't their final recording.

This sounds like a solo Dolenz project that Tork and Nez got roped into. We'll see, I guess. Honestly although there's no law against it, I think I might be most disturbed at the notion of a Monkees album that I could really only play one time of year (if that).

I only play Pool It! on leap years.

Boognish On a never-ending quest for vinyl...

I'm genuinely intrigued. As much as I'd rather have non-Christmas new Monkees music, I'm probably going to buy it either way, especially if there's a vinyl copy. I just hope it's of a higher quality than I'd expect of a straight-up Christmas album.

What happened with the follow up to Good Times where the guys from Squeeze wrote a song for the Monkees? Cancelled?
