Looks interesting. I prefer the look over the RP8 and I like the dust cover they have gone with. This will definitely be worth an audition when released.

    Thoughts?

  3. We’ve been discussing this all day on the RP8 RP10 thread. Appropriate for it to finally have it’s own.

I think it is beautiful. Love the dust cover.

I love my RP8 so this should be an amazing table for folks who love the Rega sound and style.

I can see one of these in my near future. I like the design. I also like the electronically adjustable power supply...

Anybody know when these will be likely to hit the stores?

It appears to be here (England) already....Rega Planar 8 Turntable + Cartridge Options | Rega | Audo T
… at a lower price than the RP8!!

With EBLT (ho ho) drive belts. 'For three years Rega has been researching and developing with chemists the use of a bespoke new rubber compound for drive belts. Using a specialised curing system, the new drive belt offers superior consistency of modulus (a constant representing the degree to which a substance has a particular property, especially elasticity). These new belts are manufactured on Rega designed, state of the art, super-accurate tools which produce 'perfectly round' and 'dimensionally accurate' belts, critical for perfect speed stability.'

I like the matt finish on the table and arm. I find it's far less susceptible to scratches. Now the question is; do I buy the Planar 6 with Exact or sell a kidney and get the Planar 8?

Looks incredible ! Not much surface area for feedback to occur. Rega thinking is definitely 'out of the box'. I am impressed with the innovation. Go Rega !!

Now here the question I have to ask? The geometry of the Planar 8 shouldn't have changed from any of their previous models, I'm guessing. So would the new dust cover fit on my P5? I take the dust cover off anyway. And those stupid hinges make storing the cover a hassle. I think I might get one if it's reasonably priced. Same or under the price of the boxy one.
...On second thought, I'd have to ditch my Q-Up. I guess I'm stuck with the boxy one.

Another potential advantage I just noticed.. There looks to be a fair amount of room between the top of the counterweight and dust cover meaning that a higher VTA can be achieved (with spacers) while still utilizing the dust cover. I know on my RP3 that any more than 2mm meant the counterweight would hit the cover so this is good news.

Very sweet. Bet it sounds incredible.

I have not heard the Ania, but the Alpheta 2 is an amazing cart so that is what I would go with.

If it turns out to be too pricey, you can always track down one of these "universal dust covers." MD used to sell them, but a quick look just now indicates you may have to go further afield.

So, £1700 for the deck, £2100 with the Anita, and £2400 with the Apheta, including Neo PSU, over here.

I think we should continue to call it the Anita.

The RP6 was knocked down 20% when the Planar 6 came out last year. I bought two (and then moved one up to an RP10 this year).

A clearance RP8 would be an awesome deal.

After owning a couple of Rega tables I find that I much prefer the VPI design philosophy. But I have to say that the Planar 8 looks really sweet, and I'm sure it will sound great as well.

That link looks more like a pre-sale. I don't think anyone has them in stock yet.

If you have two kidneys still, than you have your answer.

Great looking deck with its two tone platter and elegantly curved base. I am not a huge fan of the lack of a full dustcover in the form of a lid, but it does reduce cost significantly so that they can provide new features without increasing the price point. There also appears to be a spirit level incorporated into the dustcover. That's a handy feature, assuming that is indeed what that little aluminum disc is, near the back edge of the cover where it rests on the platter. I need to move the last RP8 here to make way for the new Planar 8.

I would imagine pretty much starting right now. Are you looking for one with or without a cartridge?

Contact your local dealer, or any of the 3 Rega dealers that commonly post here if you don't have a local dealer.....we would all be more then happy to try and help if we can.
