The Beatles always had problems with the concept of chairs. For instance:

Paul had the right idea here, but he failed in remembering to take his pants down:

    Wrong headphones!

    It's Denny Laine - Abbey Road c. 1972

See page 74 of Wingspan - on a page with Nashville shots but this shot is from Abbey Road (see page 53).

Interesting. I think that shot of Paul was used on the Revolver cover.

50 years, the mixing of the WA continues

Work continued on Savoy Truffle during this session, with the addition of a saxophone overdub, scored by Chris Thomas.

Between 3pm and 6pm the session musicians were recorded. They were Art Ellefson, Danny Moss and Derek Collins on tenor saxophone, and Ronnie Ross, Harry Klein and Bernard George on baritone.

From 6pm to midnight a mixing session took place in the control room of Studio Two. Each of the songs was either written or sung by George Harrison or Ringo Starr.

It began with four mono mixes of Piggies, one of Don't Pass Me By, and two of Good Night. Three stereo mixes of Piggies were then made, followed by one apiece of Don't Pass Me By and Good Night.

Don't Pass Me By also had an edit which added a few tinkling piano notes to the beginning. Both mono and stereo mixes of the song were crossfaded with a tape of violinist Jack Fallon playing along to the song, although the mixes used different parts of this overdub.

Recording, mixing: Savoy Truffle, Piggies, Don’t Pass Me By, Good Night

Really odd moments of the band in studio
    Even Ringo´s drums endured.

LOL at Paul not paying attention to Klein and smiling at the camera instead (was it Linda making the photograph?)

The guy on the left looks uncanningly like Brian Epstein

After the way they got rid of Pete Best, Ringo should have seen his unceremonious exit from the band coming!

That's John Eastman - Linda's brother and Paul's preferred manager (along with their father, Lee Eastman).

I was just thinking of an alternate history where they Released the Hey jude album but instead of the early to mid 60s stuff they instead went back to Not Guilty, What’s the New Mary Jane and maybe a couple of other tracks to make a much more late 60s album.

I always found the Hey Jude album to be quite strange in its track selection and would have much preferred it being completely contemporary recordings from 68/69. Could have had Across the universe on it too which would have saved them from including that in Let It Be.

When we get this set of outtakes I wouldn’t mind compiling a new Hey Jude set.

"What’s the New Mary Jane" is one of the worst tracks they ever recorded. I couldn't believe it when I first heard it on a tape in the 1980s. I thought there must be a better studio version somewhere but there isn't (the demo might be marginally better). I don't see an alternate history where that track would ever have been released while the Beatles were a going concern.

According to Wikipedia "In a 1969 interview with NME, Lennon credited head of Apple Electronics and friend Magic Alex with writing half of the song, though this credit was later revoked without explanation."

They certainly could have found some alternates "Not Guilty" for sure and earlier out takes like "Leave My Kitten Alone" and "I'm Looking Through You" that people would have enjoyed. But really that's not what they were about then I think.
