I have every official Dylan CD and quite a few bootleg cds too. They all sound fine to me. I dont have that many Dylan LPs. Am i missing out? What are your thoughts. I love both formats so i am not looking for an arguement about which format is best. Are there, for example some vinyl issues that just sound better than others etc.

    Thanks

That's more up to you I guess. His songs are great on either medium. Myself I bought two older ones on vinyl and the rest digital. I don't buy modern records on vinyl anyway, it makes no sense to convert a digital recording to analogue.

Mofi stereo vinyl if Bringing It All Back Home is excellent. Haven't tried the other Dylan albums from Mofi, but I'm sure they're great.

Some of the original Columbia LPs have a sweet warmth. The original GH album is an example. Dylan on CD is rarely what I consider bad sounding. Steve's AF version of the original GH is a great sounding CD. The mono box also sounds very, very good..

Hell!! Changes so often. Maybe today, blood on the tracks, Blonde, JWH. Give me 5 seconds, it will cange. Favs are all about my mood on the day. I really love his stuff. I have seen him so many times. Love him live. Not so keen with his last few albums. One of the greatest artistes of all time IMO

I don't get the misleading thread title at all. Shouldn't it be something like, "I've got all of Dylan's albums on CD — Am I missing anything by not owning all of his vinyl LPs too?"

There is a 3LP Blonde On Blonde from Mofi, retails for $85. They did 45rpm mono and stereo for JWH, those go for $35 each on MusicDirect. Blood On The Tracks 33rpm Mofi is expensive now, but they will release a 45rpm One-Step soon for $125.

I have a very nice set (not complete, but all the classics are there) of Dylan on vinyl which I treasure. The original Love and Theft LP is playing here now. I'm still likely to buy the Complete Album Collection CD box soon though.

I did. Just completed by buying John Wesley Harding. :agree::cool::agree::cool::agree:

When I say just completed, not quite, I still want JWH in mono.:edthumbs:

If your happy with the cd why bother? Cherry pick if you must and decide for yourself. Purchased Triplicate on vinyl recently and two sides have non fill issues. I'm tired of getting burned by this superior format.

His recent records (Love and Theft through Tempest) are night and day on vinyl vs. digital. The Columbia CD's are horribly mastered.

The CD's are obsolete. Throw them away immediately, they may cause cancer. Anyone with 60 year old ears on this forum can tell you this by looking at dynamic range graphs posted by Elmer Fudd.

A well mastered LP or SACD will show off a good sound system. Choose the version that fits your budget. Or buy both so you don't put too much wear and tear on your Nashville Skyline or Blood On The Tracks, given if you listen to them a lot.

Love and Theft on SACD (both Sony and MoFi) sounds fantastic though.

Yes, if money is not a big concern, the Mofi lps are superb.

The mofi CDs are just as good as the LPs. And cheaper.

I think the most pertinent question is not vinyl or CD but – 'which vinyl and which CD?'

These albums sound great on both Vinyl and CD. I happen to prefer CD, others like Vinyl. I say just choose, fill your boots, and enjoy!
