One of the nice things of this forum is that you discover music/artists which you'd otherwise probably never would have found by yourself. It is because of this forum that I got introduced to bands like Popol Vuh and Tangerine Dream. A while back someone also posted the theme of a (for me unknown) series called 'Stranger Things' and it's on repeat now. :) All great stuff posted by members.

So which artists/music did you discover on this forum?

Love, Big Star, Tom Waits, XTC, Sparks, Television, Nick Drake, Moody Blues, Yes, Kingdom Come, King Crimson, Jethro Tull. I’m sure there are more but I don’t remember them at the moment. I only liked Television though.

I was familiar with them but I had never listened to them before.
    Now I like them.

    Also The Kinks.
Of course I knew them and always liked them and heard a lot of their songs, but I had never listened to a whole album except for Give The People What They Want.

I forgot to mention an artist called Merzbow. People were saying great things about him so I checked out his stuff... Without a doubt the worst "music" I heard in my entire life. That was an eye opener too but for different reasons.;)

Mike Portnoy's forum was my go to when it came to finding new music but he shut it down. Then I find this place and I couldn't be happier.I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about music and genres but someone posted why is Gong not bigger than Can? I love Gong and never heard of Can and of course being that they were compared to Gong I had to check them out...that led me to the whole Kraut Rock scene and man what a discovery. Neu!,Cluster,Out of Focus,Harmonia and further down the rabbit hole I went. It is now some of my favorite music ever.
    Thank you Steve Hoffman Forum.

I have found a lot of songs on here... And I thank you all.. Including the one I'm listening to, "Song For Europe" by Roxy Music
Finding music is pretty easy when it's laid out in a thread, such as ^, which I found on "Sad Songs of the 70s" and many more threads.

Artists this forum made me explore more? That would be Siouxsie & the Banshees. I only knew a few hits, somebody here recommended me “Juju” and - as you can see - I became a believer. One of my favorite artists ever!

This forum has not been a good source for discovering any "new" artists. But maybe I'm just an old fart with too many records?

Sandy Denny was the big one. While I knew of her from Zeppelin IV, the forum caused me to look deeper and discover a lot of music I might not have beforehand. And in the same vein, Fotheringay and Fairport Convention.
