As far as "wear and tear" goes, one day, while playing a vinyl record, look up close to where the stylus makes contact with the vinyl grooves. Look closely. Or even get a magnifying glass and see what is actually happening. It is organic and physical. Nothing wrong with that. And many records play very well over many many uses. But it is friction and there is a wearing away over time. Same with tape. Don't be misled. Yet, having said that, it makes it even better to "feel" the audio from the physical grooves and hear the result!!!! I agree about that certain "grungy-ness" about some LPs/45's, that is lost when it comes to be transferred to CD. I think that is because of the digital aspect involved. That's why analog sounds better. I'm not an audiophile expert, though. I just know what I hear and use common sense. The Time Fades Away album just is phenomenal in it's roughness, sloppiness, real emotion-ness.

I agree, to the one bajiliionth degree.

When Neil sings “DON’T BE DENIED!” my gut reaction is “I won’t, I promise!!!”

Is this just on the CDs? I think the Pono 24/192 downloads have no compression or peak limiting.

I did, and I listened to it, and I agree, it does sound fine. I bought it and listened to it before I made this post. I just wanted everyone else’s thoughts on the CD compared to the original vinyl.

I think the Archive CD sounds great and most importantly, the album lived up to the hype for me. I first listened expecting perfection and I got whatever is better than that.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen any used copies of the original promo cd come out of the woodwork on eBay.

I only have the album on cassette, an old french cassette copyfrom the 70s that still plays well. I often wondered how it would have sounded digitized. I never got to do it (i don't have the equipment to do it) and with a proper CD release it seems useless now.

Just wondering if anyone has heard if and when this was going to be released separately on cd. I would think by now this would be out since it's been several years since the ORS box was released.

Agreed. Very strange. Not sure how well the newly issued LP sold, but maybe not that well, and the sales projections for the cd were not that great. Just conjecture on my part.

Strictly speaking, you cannot sell the original promo on ebay. If he decides to clamp down on it, then your sales will be pulled.

I gave up and just bought the set. I figure the infividual CDs would cost £7-8 anyhow.
