    Just fyi...

I never had a clue that these existed. A lot of folks here did. I don't think most people outside the forum or other places did knew about them. So they are totally new to my ears.

  2. The Esher demos are the only reason I'm picking this up, as I too have never heard them. I bought the 3CD version, which I was fortunate enough to preorder from Amazon.CA at $13.41, which made it a no-brainer purchase. The current price is $34.17. If I like those demos I might pick up the vinyl 4LP set later.

I'd put the basement tapes way higher, all new songs.

I just watched an interview with Giles Martin where he pronounced it as "Eeeesher".
Is there anyone local to this region that can set this straight? I've always pronounced it this way, but what do I know.
I've probably heard it 50% either way.

To the OP, yes, even though it's been available for a long time, it's nice to get it released by the record company. I heard or read somewhere that the source of the particular tapes ultimately used were in George Harrison's collection.

No, I had them on bootleg for years and never found them very captivating. Not sure why, guess it's just that they are rough and busked but don't actually deviate much in structure from the finished songs.

They are certainly not from out of nowhere. However, they must be very exiting for someone just hearing them for the first time like the OP.

You are obviously a very young newish Beatles fan cos us old guys have been listening to these demos for many years and they aren't as magical as they once were but at the time.. yes magically awesome.

What?! You don’t think the new release represents a major, major sonic upgrade from the bootlegs?!

Apparently Van put it out to circumvent the expiring copyright, so he put it out and immediately pulled it on purpose. Crazy!

Once upon a time you could drive right up to George's bungalow where the demos were recorded, exotic hand painted walls and all. I always think of it as being nearer Claygate than Esher, but best not get in to that now. You find me about twenty minutes from Eeeeshurrr, awaiting courier delivery of the box set, 50 years after first buying the album on day of release at WHSmith's in Staines, also about 20 mins from Esher!

No need to add on how these are not exactly out of nowhere.
It's great if you are hearing these demo's for the first time.
I am a little burned out on them, but that's my own faulth.
That said I am hoping the official release will sound better then the bootleg version I have.

Not sure if it's been debated wheter it was a good decision to release these recordings in the order as the songs appeared on the album.
I am not even sure if the order the appaer on the bootlegs is the right one.
And you might argue that the recordings should have been left as they were on tapes,
but I think it's a good thing that they corrected the horrible out of sync double tracking.

I think you are the only person in the UK who pronounces it incorrectly. I knew people who lived in that area.

    It is EEEEsher

  25. Well, now that you mention it - yes. While the Eshers are certainly nice to have (especially in optimum quality, finally), for this Dylan fanatic, the Basements are a necessity of life. YMMV
