I mentioned this in the "trailer" thread (post #21), and I agree it looks like a great documentary.:)

He was also in a episode of the TV show "Route 66" that was very funny.I think it was one of his last few roles.

He is one of the absolute greats.

A true genius and inspired filmmaker when he was given the freedom to let his imagination run wild. Some amazing sequences in SHERLOCK JR. and STEAMBOAT BILL JR..

Buster Keaton was one of the greats. I remember watching "The General" with my mom when I was younger, and a few months ago we watched it again on Blu-Ray and enjoyed it just the same. I'm so happy my mother introduced me to silent films, I can't imagine my life without Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton.

As a Canadian, I am supremely proud that Buster Keaton brought his love of railroads up north and made his last films here.

His films are stupendous on a large screen. I was lucky enough to see a few of them in the early 80's when a local theatre used to show silents on occasion. Got to see some Chaplins too.

I think Buster is the greatest of the silent film comics. I prefer both Buster and Harold Lloyd to Chaplin.
I enjoy his MGM talkies too, though Buster himself thought they were lousy.

Steamboat Bill was his Waterloo. Film stiffed at at BO & Hollywood was changing. A lot of silent folk folded their tents and banked their cash into real estate.
Not so Buster. Perhaps needed a financial adviser.

Didn't Buster get cleaned out in a divorce in the early '30s?

In my mind he was the greatest silent film comedian. Can't wait for Netflix to snatch this up.

Might check here for theater info. An outfit called Cohen Media Group have restored several of his films and is behind the production of this film.
I saw one of their restos last year and was impressed.
A full overview was done by Kevin Brownlow "Buster Keaton: A Hard Act to Follow"and shown on PBS back when they use to show stuff like this.

I second the Cohen restorations. The Eureka/Cohen BR set I got has "General/Steamboat/Sherlock" and they look superb, probably as good as they ever will.

I have a couple of the Criterion blu-rays, but a friend bought a great Keaton box set years ago. Wish I had. That Keaton set is now over $250. I DO have the Lloyd set.

Sherlock Jr. and Seven Chances are unreal. So good.

I interviewed the director and writer, Gerald Potterton, who was also an animator on Yellow Submarine and directed cult classic Heavy Metal... he said Buster was amazing...

Sherlock Jr. is my favorite movie of all time. As others have opined, Buster was better than Chaplin. I agree. Can't wait to see this!
