I'm curious which of the Mofi SACDs that members recommend. I am thinking about filling in part of my collection...

I'm also curious how folks like these titles in terms of sonics:

    McCoy Tyner, Sahara
Art Pepper, The Way It Was
    Aimee Mann, Lost in Space
The Kinks, Everybodies in Showbiz and Low Budget
Los Lobos, Good Morning Aztlan and Time
    Isaac Hayes, Hot Buttered Soul

Hawkins, Coleman – The Hawk Flies High
    Marshal, Mike - Gator Strut
Winter, Edgar – They Only Come Out At Night
    Skrowaczewski/Minnesota Orchestra – Ravel
Little Richard – Here’s Little Richard
Earth Wind and Fire – That’s the Way of the World

I believe the Kinks SACD's in the digipaks have the same mastering so you can save money there (unless you are a collector). Aimee Mann has great sonics but it's not my cup of tea. I don't find myself reaching for Sahara much - It's got some really good songs but I'm not a huge fan of that jazz era. Hot Buttered Souls is a must but it will cost you $$$. I need to order the Art Pepper.

Good choices Rick. I am putting the Coleman Hawkins and Little Richard on my list.

The Little Richard does have the tape stretch - but I guess thats how the master is today - but I wish it could be corrected to sound correct....

I have Sahara and Good Morning Aztlan. I just wanted to have a digital version of Sahara, being that it was one of my key recordings of the 70's. The sound is nothing revelatory, but I'll admit to the fact that I did no A/B comparisons. It sounds fine. As for Los Lobos, I have no basis of comparison. As with Sahara, nothing revelatory in terms of depth of soundstage or imaging, and certainly not IMO as good a record as either The Neighborhood or Kiko.

If you have no other version of Sahara, I would jump on this one.

are among my favorites for sonics.

Was kind of disappointed in Sahara but the music didn't move me so that didn't help.
The Isaac Hayes is OK. The recording shows its age here and there.

Have the Aimee Mann too but haven't actually listened to it yet.

Intend to get the Art Pepper.

I have Aimee Mann's Lost in Space on SACD and LP. There's quite a difference between the two. The LP has a much deeper low end than the SACD. I also hear a more cohesive, fuller midrange on the LP. It's worth comparing if you're a fan of the album. Being used to the LP I was disappointed with the SACD.

The MFSL SACD of The Pixies "Surfer Rosa" is one of my favorites. Really great clarity and the drums have a live punchy sound that I love. I also really enjoy "Time" by Los Lobos. Man I wish MFSL would do Kiko.

  10. Santana Abraxas (MFSL)
    Joe Walsh-Barnstorm (MFCD)
    Elton John-Captain Fantastic (SACD MCA)
David Bowie_Hunky Dory (RYKO AU20 Gold)
    Most of Steve Hoffman's work..

Lee was only asking about the MFSL SACD's. (I have all the ones you listed here and they are indeed all audiophile treats.)

The 2 albums of Ravel are simply awesome both in stereo and mc.

It seems a little strange nobody mentioned 'Soultrane'.

The Blood, Sweat, and Tears titles sound great, along with Holst's "The Planets". I also agree with the EWF and Edgar Winter titles previously mentioned.

I've had the DAD of this for years and the mofi is much better (when the stereo layer on both is compared). The surround on the mofi just opens the music up.
I need to pick up the other Ravel.

I have the following, which I bought based on recommendations found here and on sa-cd.net

    John Coltrane - Soultrane
Coleman Hawkins - The Hawk Flies High
    Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
    Jim Hall - Concierto
    Pat Martino - East
Miles Davis - Steamin' (although I like the mastering of the Cookin' SACD better)
    Milt Jackson - Sextet

I also have the Holst, Ravel and Mussorgsky classical SACDs.

I didn't know this. It seems interesting. How's the sound, Bill?

I think the sound is great! Excellent album too! (Note that I don't own any other version of this title, so I have nothing to compare it to for sound quality.)

I picked this up right after my wife and I saw him in concert. Didn't know much or really any of his music before that show, just that he was from Philly. (His story is very interesting in that he had a stroke and had to re-learn everything about playing guitar. Just amazing. Goes to show that some people are just born with a gift!)

Anyway, this disc just keeps on finding its way into the player.
