    Handydandy,

Where were those pictures of John playing the Fender Jazzmaster taken? Is it a party? John and Paul look like they're drunk! :D

Here's another picture of Lennon with his Strat.

That looks like it was from when they stayed at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle on their '64 visit.
Much was made out the fact that they fished out of the window, used to be part of the local lore.

If you remove and flip the nut and bridge and re-string it, it should work fine.

Don't they also go out of tune easily?... I heard it's because of the short fret neck.......

Mine didn't. I never heard John's 325 off pitch once in all those records or concerts...

I've been reading Beatles Gear, and apparently Paul learned to play guitars upside down in the early days, because very few owners would let him switch the strings!

Come to think of it, didn't Hendrix do the same thing?

A friend of mine (left handed) learned to play a right handed strung guitar upside down. It's possible.

It's not easy but it's possible. I can only manage to play first position chords A, E, D and maybe G upside down on a right handed guitar. Barre chords, fuggedaboutit man!!

John usually used heavy gauge flatwound strings on his 325 guitars. Heavier strings are necessary since the Rickenbacker 325 only has a 24" scale neck, the string tension isn't as taut as on a Gibson or Fender guitar which have longer scale necks. The heavy strings aid in the tuning stability of the guitar, but it's a bitch if you're trying to bend strings.

If you see a Rickenbacker guitar of any kind that you like on the rack in a guitar shop, grab it!! They've stopped (for the time being) making their vintage reissue series guitars and stopped taking special orders because of the overwhelming demand. Even after nearly 80 years in business, Rickenbacker is still a small family owned company. They're so backlogged on orders now, that it will take them anywhere from 18 months to 2 years to catch up. :yikes:
