    2011 ?

First installment was supposed to be 2008.

The publisher must be waitng for someone to shuffle onto their mortal coil, so they don't offend anyone.

Maybe his first effort was rejected by the publishers ?

Every four years originally 2008 (that was changed to 2010) then 2012, and last book 2016.

Wonder if it's because of Yoko's auto-biography she plans write.

Maybe it is difficult to predict accurately how long it will take to research and write a major biography?

It appears Yoko won't be writing an autobiography anytime soon.

I think the amount of information he turned up in his research for this book has been pretty overwhelming. A lot of the original sources of information are reaching the end of their lives or have died since he started his research so he knows this is the only time a book like this can be written and wants to make it the best he can.
That said I'm really glad we have a release date at last.

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm kind of antsy that the first volume is getting moved to 2011. But that's o.k. It'll likely be very worth the wait. I love it when authors really get into very detailed and thorough writing on biographies.

Is it true that Harrison blamed Lewishon (or his assistants) for bootlegs which popped up in the 80s and 90s? If so, I wonder if that will effect this will have on Lewishon's portrayal of Harrison in the book(s).
Lewishon seems fairly neutral and objective---maybe a slight Paul-bias.

I can't remember which boot it was, but one did have "Thanks to Mark L. for the tapes" on it.

I never heard that Mark Lewisohn actually had anything to do with boots.

The story was Lewisohn had a "runner" who would fetch tapes from the library for him to listen to for his book; the "runner" would then copy tapes on portable equipment as time allowed. Mark L himself is blameless.

Maybe not directly, but it was too much of a coincidence that those excellent, never-before-heard recordings surfaced immediately after the Complete Beatles Recording Sessions book was published.

    My questions are:

How could EMI have ever thought tape copying WASN'T going to occur?

After Lewisohn's book was published and the details emerged on how it was researched, was anybody really surprised that the Swingin' Pig and Yellow Dog "corporations", respectively, had a goldmine of new releases to sell?

Strangely, when Lewisohn was first questioned about this topic shortly after the bootleg CDs started appearing, he stated that the "leak" actually traced back to the John Barrett project.

I think he discovered after the fact his assistant had done some copying and Mark was probably worried he would be blamed.

Well he did have permission, he can't help it if someone managed to make boots of it.

Why is that whenever anyone seems to not be negative towards McCartney it's a bias but no matter how much praise or deification John Lennon gets, almost no writers seems to get accused of having a "John bias"? :)

Lewisohn didn't copy any tapes nor did anybody copy any tapes for him. He listened to the tapes at a room in Abbey Road with an EMI tape op and was searched before entering and leaving the building. The bootlegs that came out in 1988-9 did indeed originate with the late John Barrett's cassette copies- he had been the last person allowed free rein at Abbey Road, but the bootlegs were posthumous, he was an EMI employee and did not intend the tapes to be released.
You guys crack me up. You believe a line of copy on a bootleg but accuse EMI of fraud when they put out a CD of an album with no bonus tracks!
Lewisohn only started writing the biography in 2009, there was never any intention of it being published earlier than 2010- it may not even be 2012 now.

Indeed. The bootleggers obviously thought that if they started putting stuff out when the book was published, Lewisohn would cop the blame. In one of his first interviews for the book (may have been with 'Beatles Monthly') he said that he was very pleased that EMI had proof that it wasn't him who was responsible for the leaking of tapes. It may seem shocking to some, but bootleggers don't always tell the truth.
