That's what I am reading these being labelled as. Designed by Andrew Jones, who also designed Pioneer's ultra expensive TAD lines of audiophiles speakers....

Btw, they're available at your local Best Buy.

In my original post, I neglected to mention their price....MSRP $200.00/pair

At least they have a soft dome tweeter which should eliminate or limit shrill highs.

ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US..

Having said that, if I were looking for desktop speakers (which is what they look like, in that pic there) I would give them a listen. You might need a subwoofer to go with them though...

they also look like they are part of a 5.1 system

Support a real audio company and buy the $200 AudioEngine speakers.

Not really a fair comparison for either product, since the AE2 is a near-field powered speaker with a 3" woofer and the Pioneer is a passive box with a 5 1/2". The Pioneer's box likely displaces 4-6 times as much volume as the little AE.

Audiophiles just cant accept that mass market companies can turn out good products at unbeatable prices. Unless it is handbuilt by 12 blonde virgins and then polished with the holy waters of Lourdes and sells for $4000, it must be rubbish right!

The proof is in the listening. I'll have to find a way to hear these puppies first. $200 is a lot of money these days.

I have small Kef speakers that sound great. They cost way under $200.00 plus tax. I prefer to hunt in stereo stores, flea markets, etc.

Don't need them. I don't care about your 12 blonde & holy water speakers. :D

I still like the old Minumus (sp?) 7 Radio Shack speakers for computer speakers. :)

Can you post a link to the article?

Compared to a more expensive speaker, what does Pioneer do to these to cut the cost?

    Ah Put Uh SsssPell awn Ya, Be—Cause you're myyyyy—un . . .

I find that I get better results with yard sale speakers and a skyclad full moon ritual involving 13 faux-blond non-virgins rubbing Rakija into the wood veneers.

Both more cost effective and, ultimately, entertaining.

PS: I still like Paradigm Atoms.

    Over Easy?

Titans? Have them paralleled to a pair of DCM TF-350s cause that turns my Kenwood KR 9600 into a 300 watt [into 2 ohm] monster that also doubles as a cooking stove!

But seriously—one can easily find a clean used pair of Titans for less than the asking price of the Pioneer speakers.

I missed the part about Andrew Jones. That alone does make it worth an audition.

The "base" will be mighty boomy if they're coupled to the table they're sitting on as in the picture.
