    In the tray CD1:

    Brahms
    Complete Trios

Piano Trio in B, Op. 8
    Beaux Arts Trio

Trio in E flat, Op. 40 for piano, violin and horn
    Sebok/Grumiaux/Orval

Opus 8 is very nice, especially the first Allegro and the Scherzo.
The horn trio just kind of goes by...I can't get a handle on it.

Sorry about misspelling Moravec a second time in my post #4 above.

    Glad you liked Opus 8.

I have that set, but when I want to listen to the Horn Trio, I put this on.

The other three works in your twofer are late Brahms. While some of the music Brahms composed late in life is immediately inviting (notably the violin sonatas and the clarinet quintet), other pieces may sound a little forbidding on first hearing. They are definitely worth the effort.

    Polish girls

I just got off Skype with Warsaw, talking to ex-girlfriend Dorota and her friend Ola. Both repeatedly insisted he is called Pender-ETZ-ki, even at 23 they know who he is. I have to fall in behind them on this one. You can't deny that face!!

Yep, I shouldn't have used an "h" in my more or less phonetic spelling of the pronunciation :)

The piano trios are nice. If it weren't for the chamber music, I wouldn't like Brahms.

Eddie, if you click my mp3 link above, the voice says "pinder-ETZ-kee". Wonder where the 'etz' comes from. Maybe it was from all the smoke from those coal-fired locomotives in his birthblace, a rail junction town named Dębica, Poland in 1933.

I must say Eddie, you have some nice looking friends. What's she doing there, offering to do some exercise with you? :shh:;)

The site I cite has him listed as Romanian.

    Celibidache (1912-1996) was Romanian.

The Romanian language, like Italian, originates from Latin. Regions of what is now Romania became part of the Roman Empire in 106 AD.

    Thanks.

    So logical. So obvious.

I think of Romania as being so Eastern European, a la Hungary, Bulgaria, the connection to Rome and Italy flew right over my head. Hear it soar.

I'm listening to Brahms' Symphony No. 4 with new ears, too, right this very minute, courtesy of the Bernstein box set. I liked his Bruckner 9 a lot, too.

Here is one that threw me..you would think that Ralph in Vaughn Williams is pronounced the same as Ralph Kramden..it's pronounced Raaf.

    In the tray CD2:

    Brahms
    Complete Trios

Piano Trios Opp. 87 and 101
Trio Op. 114 for piano, clarinet and cello
Beaux Arts Trio with George Pieterson, clarinet

These works will take some patience -- more so than the symphonies which I liked from the start. The clarinet trio is a surprise. I find the texture of that instrumental combination very pleasing. The music has a wistful tone, and the vibrato-less clarinet give the piece an autumnal feel.

Today I opened my recently arrived Harmonia Mundi Box Set. Look at the wonderful covers. Great booklets as well, describing Europe during the period covered in each CD.

I already knew that one, thanks to my local radio station. "Rafe" with a long A.
What is that, some sort of Celtic thing?

    It's not Celtic. From Wikipedia:

Ralph is an English, Scandinavian and German male given name, derived from Old Norse Raðulfr (rað "counsel" + ulfr "wolf") through Old English Rædwulf and the longer form Radulf. It is commonly pronounced /ˈrælf/ but the traditional British pronunciation is /ˈreɪf/.
