Beatles Duophonic Mixes

Does anybody out there have a comprehensive list of songs that Capitol made into Duophonic? I know about She's A Woman & I Feel Fine. Any help with the list will be much appreciated!

That's bland fake stereo, not Duophonic. There's a difference.

Actually, I'LL GET YOU is indeed DP, and not just phoney fake stereo. I forgot about that one. It's interesting, though, that the Harmonica kida syncs up withitself due to the delay and creates an illusion of coming out of the center channel in spots. But yes....it's Duophonic.

 

So was "I'll Get You" made into Duophonic by Capitol?

Duophonic sounds great thru a quad matrix decoder - try it.

 

Hang on a minute there! I just pulled my original "Yesterday And Today" stereo "Butcher Cover" LP and the song "And Your Bird Can Sing" is 2-track stereo. My gold record cover Y&T stereo LP is also 2-track stereo, NOT "Duophonic".

As most of you probably know, the Capitol Records developed "Duophonic" process was originally achieved using the echo tunnels underneath the parking lot of the Capitol Tower in Hollywood. The later process was more like what other record companies used through different equalization on left and right channels.

When EMI released the first four Beatles albums in a set with both stereo and mono mixes, they even used the "Duophonic" tracks from the original Capitol LP's. At "Goldmine" magazine, Gillian Gaar reviewed this set and comented on how great all the stereo versions were. She either didn't listen to the CD's or couldn't differentiate between true stereo and "Duophonic".

Which releases featured "She Loves You" in Duophonic? I seem to recall it being the high freq/low freq type of fake stereo on the Canadian "Twist And Shout" LP.

Ah yes, that makes sense - thanks.

 

It should be noted that there is a Fake Stereo version of "She Loves You" from the UK on the "Oldies" LP but on the US "2nd" LP it is DP.

The three songs on MMT, I think, are Fake Stereo and Not DP.

The three songs from Y&T have both True Stereo LP & DP LP versions depending on their respective pressing years.

 

I think the Duophonic version of "She Loves You" is the best version available of this song. The extra echo and delay help add excitement to the song and lessen the annoyance factor of the wonky edits. I suspect it will never be improved upon.
