Just thought I'd chime in belatedly. I just got FACE TO FACE, SOMETHING ELSE and ARTHUR and I am extremely impressed with them. Great bonus tracks and even greater sound--there's a smoothness I never expected given past releases (I only ever had those cruddy Sanctuary remasters). My biggest thrills so far have been the stereo remixes of "This is Where I Belong", "Big Black Smoke" and the backing track for "Shangri-La". I love having both the stereo and mono versions of these albums.

For anyone else who hasn't gotten around to picking these up--they are definitely worth the money.

I wonder if we might get any short samples of the Hidden Treasures tracks soon.

It's not too far away now. :D

    Yeah:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dave-Davies-Lost-Album-Kinks/dp/B005GCNUQ8

    7. Creeping Jean
    8. Crying
    9. Lincoln County
    10. Mr Shoemaker's Daughter
    11. Mr Reporter
    12. Groovy Movies
    13. There's No Life Without Love

    BONUS:
    14. I Am Free
    15. Death Of A Clown
    16. Love Me Till The Sun Shines
    17. Susannah's Still Alive
    18. Funny Face
    19. Lincoln County
    20. There's No Life Without Love
    21. Hold My Hand
    22. Creeping Jean
    23. This Man He Weeps Tonight
    24. Mindless Child Of Motherhood
    25. Mr Reporter [alternative mix]
    26. Hold My Hand [demo]
    27. Good Luck Charm

For anyone who hasn't been following the thread, there are lots of duplicates, but it's a new master and not a compilation of those tracks used in the deluxe editions.

There are 12 unique versions here, according to Russell Smith.

The three bootleg tracks as well as a stereo mix of There's No Life Without Love are officially available for the first time, as well as what seems to be the Star Parade demo of Hold My Hand and a different 1969 mix of Dave's Mr. Reporter.

The mono mix of There's No Life Without Love (previously on the 1998 Something Else by the Kinks) and the studio Good Luck Charm (previously available on the Picture Box box set) are available here for the first time in the latest reissue series.

This can also be preordered from HMV UK for a mere £4.99!

(NB. HMV mail out in strong little cardboard boxes - so no crushed corners, squashed spines etc.)

    Other retailers are available.

I doubt it. I was lucky enough to spend some time talking to him after a show (because of a friend that had some connection) but we had to wait until everybody had gone outside. Then my friend brought me back in and Ray was sitting on the stage alone. It was a wonderful experience because I got to ask all sorts of questions. And the look on his face when my friend said his favourite album was "Preservation Act II" was PRICELESS.

The stereo version of There's No Life Without Love sounds quite different from the mono.

And the Star Parade Hold My Hand hasn't been perfectly cleaned up. Sounds like a needledrop. I suppose nothing more can be done, but it's better than the bootleg I already have. :)

Still, the sound quality of the compressed samples Amazon uploads isn't great at all, so we can expect much better when we hear it properly.

I got that same look when I spoke with him after the Stockbridge 2006 shows, and asked him when he would release the Preservation film on DVD!

I'm still confused by the promise of "12 unreleased versions." Based on the samples, I count 8 tracks which don't appear on the deluxe editions, 6 or 7 of which could be considered unreleased.

    1. Susannah's Still Alive (stereo - on Something Else deluxe)
    2. This Man He Weeps Tonight (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    3. Mindless Child Of Motherhood (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    4. Hold My Hand (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    5. Do You Wish To Be A Man (stereo - unreleased)
    6. Are You Ready (stereo - unreleased)

    7. Creeping Jean (stereo - on Village Green deluxe)
    8. Crying (stereo - unreleased)
    9. Lincoln County (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    10. Mr Shoemaker's Daughter (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    11. Mr Reporter (stereo - on Arthur deluxe)
    12. Groovy Movies (stereo - on Village Green deluxe)
    13. There's No Life Without Love (stereo - unreleased)
    14. I Am Free (mono - on Kontroversy deluxe)
    15. Death Of A Clown (mono - on Something Else deluxe)
    16. Love Me Till The Sun Shines (mono - on Something Else deluxe)
    17. Susannah's Still Alive (mono - on Something Else deluxe)
    18. Funny Face (mono - on Something Else deluxe)
    19. Lincoln County (mono - on Arthur deluxe)
    20. There's No Life Without Love (mono - not on the deluxe editions but not really rare)
    21. Hold My Hand (mono - on Arthur deluxe)
    22. Creeping Jean (mono - on Arthur deluxe)
    23. This Man He Weeps Tonight (mono - on Arthur deluxe)
    24. Mindless Child Of Motherhood (mono - on Arthur deluxe)
    25. Mr Reporter (alternate mix - unreleased)
    26. Hold My Hand (demo version - still not great sounding but better than I've heard before)
    27. Good Luck Charm (Picture Book version - but this seems to be an upgrade)

I suppose the samples could be wrong… or some songs could differ in a way not apparent from the 30-second samples (such as having a different ending).

  13. The two times I've seen him solo he hasn't so I doubt it.

You can go to Amazon UK's mp3 page for the Hidden Treasures album to hear the samples in higher quality.

Good Luck Charm certainly sounds better than the Picture Book mastering, I'm really looking forward to hearing this one from the CD.

I'm glad they didn't NR the "Hold My Hand" demo either, I'm guessing it sounds like that on the original Starparade LP too.

There's a nice little song on meeting Ray watching the football in a pub in Highgate -

I Know Where Ray Davies Lives - Mark Nevin

Mark Nevin had a number 1 hit single in the UK in the '80s himself, as a member of Fairground Attraction.

Can someone please summarise what this Lost Album is? Having just bought all the Kinks deluxe sets I don't want to duplicate. Is this a kind of best of Dave Davies, or his own versions of the songs, or something else? Thanks!

They are mainly duplicates, but Russell Smith told us they were all new masters by Andrew Sandoval separate from the ones used for the deluxe editions.

So, whereas most of the tracks are already released, it is not strictly a compilation.

Apparently, there are 12 unreleased versions here.

Some of the songs will only be available through this release.

The mono This Man He Weeps Tonight is different than the one on Arthur deluxe if only because it has not the digital clicks.

On the other hand, has anybody noticed that Amazon.co.uk says that the release date for the cd is 26 Sep 2011 but the mp3 are not downloadable until 28 Oct 2011? WTF!?!

It looks like the release date has been moved back to 31st October 2011 for both the CD and the download.

According to Amazon UK, at least. HMV is still giving the original date.

While I'm grateful for this new release and to finally get the last three unreleased tracks from dave's solo album, the other deluxe releases were specifically stereo/mono releases. So why are we missing mono mixes of Crying, Are You Ready, and Do You Wish to be a Man - as well as the mono Groovy Movies - while other Tracks are repeated from previous deluxe releases we already have?

    8. Crying

    12. Groovy Movies

I believe these tracks were only mixed to stereo back in the day, for inclusion on the master tape of Dave's album that was sent to Reprise.
None of them have been released in mono and no mono mixes of them are known to exist in the Reprise or Pye archives.

Makes sense. Now it is possible that Lola, Muswell and Hidden Treasures
get released at the same time.
