I'm looking for your opinions here...

I don't have the finances to purchase multiple versions, so if you were in my shoes and had to choose only one, would you go for the DCC Gold disc or the hi-res download?

    Many thanks in advance !!

Well, I'd say always go for those DCC McCartney's if you can find/afford them.

The DCC (like all of the early ones) has that 'fairy dust' on the sound. The new high rez edition OTOH sounds very neutral and crystal clear. If buy the DCC, you might be in danger of getting an DCC addict. The song Band On The Run on the DCC is actually one of my Hi-Fi reference tracks. But I enjoy the high rez version, too.

    The Half-Speed Vinyl

    I'd recommend the DCC.

DCC. Be patient. They come up for sale quite often. If you're one of those guys who "only cares about the music", wait for one with a beat-up slip case or missing poster. Those are usually pretty cheap.

I would go for the recent high res files. I have the DCC and it's very good. But if I was getting this for the first time, I'd go for the download.

DCC!!! No contest. Smooth and silky top, full bodied midrange, deep
well-defined bass. Thank you Steve! :)

    I have compared both.

For me, it is a mix of the HR and the DCC. I prefer the bass (clearer, less bloated) on the HR version, but 1985 is better on the DCC.

I'd recommend the HR since it's cheaper, but if you're an absolute fan of the last track and can afford it, get the DCC.

Definitely the DCC. As mentioned above, be patient. You'll find one.

DCC is as good as it gets. I heard the black triangle once and was not impressed at all...sounded very dull (not in a good way) to my ears

  16. I've always felt the 'Anniversary' (mid 90's boxed) Edition was/is, a nice and much cheaper alternative to the DCC. The 'Anniversary' box edition is cheap enough (I see them at Amoeba routinely for less than $15) that u can pick one up and enjoy, while u wait out a DCC copy that falls within your budget. Just My Humble Opinion of course.

I think you'd be better off going for the high-res download. Not only will it cost much less, but you get more bang for you buck. And to me, it sounds better than the DCC.

I know this is a very subjective question that I asked. But your replies are all very helpful for sure.

Please if you haven't given your $.02 yet, I hope you will consider doing so.

I haven't heard the hi res version, but I have the DCC and the 2011 remaster. The DCC is infinitely better.

I definitely did consider the difference in cost between the two. But I have multiple early versions of BOTR, and I decided I would only purchase one more...

Yes, I agree. Some tracks are sounding so similar on both releases, that it's almost a no-brainer to go automatically for the (unlimited, if you prefer) hi-res option from the 2010 remaster.

I dare anyone of you to try and notice any differences between certain songs in a blind test (which says a good thing about both releases obviously). Other songs are approached different by both mastering engineers, see "Jet" and "Band On The Run". But again, since the 2010 remaster is executed so very well, I would go for the hi-res option. Literally more bang for the buck.
