I have nothing by her and have only heard a few of her hits, but she carried that show and made me a fan. And I am in lust with her guitars! The Ovation 12 string and that green electric 12. She mentioned she has been cancer free for eight years, and I kinda looked up and said a thank you. I wanna see her again!

Pick up her first (self-titled) album. You'll like it. :)

She sure channels Seger a bit on her second album. But I agree the debut is the place to start. See if you can find the original US CD rather than the compressed deluxe edition. The latest albums (from her greatest hits compilation on) are unfortunately extremely compressed and have awful sound quality, but the first several albums sound fine in their original CD releases.

Good to see her mentioned. I have all of her albums, after Brave and Crazy got me hooked. Last one I bought was a mint copy of her debut on vinyl, European pressing, froam a record fair.

That should be easy. The original release is still in print and easily available. The Deluxe edition seems to be out of print. :)

Brave & Crazy is one of my alltime favorite albums. The s/t album is also wonderful. Everything after that is hit-and-miss IMO.

2 of my all-time favs, as well, especially Brave & Crazy.

    ...very special albums...

There are live tracks - about a proper albums'-worth - released circa s/t and Brave and Crazy...a 5-track ltd. ed. EP, and other tracks bonus-tacked-onto promo singles from the 2nd album...they all showed up, I believe, as a bonus disc on a special version of s/t in the past few years. Great stuff!

She is a tremendous live act. Saw her open the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood nearly 10 years ago. She played solo acoustic/piano and it was intense.

I saw her early in her career, circa Brave & Crazy (Del Amitri opened up - fun night) and I found her to be a very engaging and energetic performer, songs really sounded like they were soaked with her blood, sweat and tears. She comes off much better live, imo.

Agreed - I've never seen a 6-strong get the workout hers did that night in 1990. Don't know what to feel more sorry for...the poor, shredded strings, or her poor, shredded calluses...! :yikes:

I saw her almost bring down the walls at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco. She was so amazing.

We saw her back in 1996 or something like that. It was a great show, one of the best arena shows I've attended.

I have her first two albums (s/t and Brave and Crazy) plus Yes I Am. Love them all.

Her first was one of my favorite albums for a long time (#80 on the list I submitted when we had a poll here a few years ago) but I haven't heard any of them for quite some time. I should give them a spin.

I agree - Breakdown and Never Enough are my two favorites from after the first two albums. In both these albums she stretches herself musically more so than in most of the others. I like that, but neither of them were a hit compared to the albums that came in between.

I've been listening to Endless Love, her most recent, and it's one of the LOUDEST albums I've ever heard, and certainly the LOUDEST Melissa Etheridge album. Is this what you guys call 'brickwalling'?

I do love authentic rock chicks and she is one for sure. First time I became aware of her was when she sang "Burning Love" during a 1994 Elvis tribute show in Memphis. I thought she was the hit of the show.

I saw Melissa in 1996 and thought she was fine - not great, but good, and she put on a pretty solid rock show.

The crowd was interesting. It was heavily female, and heavily lesbian. I felt like a total outsider at that show!

And they were rambunctious! They made frequent hoots and hollers and demands for Melissa to take off her top. (She declined that suggestion.) Crazy crowd!

Strange... I was just thinking about her and wondering what happened to her. She seemed to be huge a while back and then just disappeared (maybe I just stopped paying attention). I was always kind of ambivalent towards her... it's clear that she's talented and she was some good songs, but never really got me enough for me to consider myself a fan.

Etheridge had a few years of good commercial success and then settled more into a niche audience. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

I've wanted to see her on stage again but haven't been willing to pay the ticket prices - her shows have tended to be $75+. I pay that much all the time but only for artists I really like - for those on the periphery, it's just too much.

    If I could get a decent ticket for $50, I'd go! :)

I got comped tix at the Casino. I am not a "whale" by any stretch, but whenever they have seats to fill I get an e mail a couple days before the show. I guess they figure we are reliable seat fillers. I have seen more concerts in the last 3 years than in my whole life. R&B, Jazz, Rock, Country, Oldies acts, or Comedians, I get them all. The Time, Manhattan Transfer, Stanley Clarke(w/Hiromi), B-52s, Natalie Cole, The Trammps, Dennis DeYoung, Cheap Trick are just a few. I'm hoping to get to see Jeffrey Osbourne in a couple of weeks:D

I think that Brave and Crazy is just as good as her debut, too.
