Thanks to a miraculous lack of ties, we were able to eliminate the desired four films last round: "Young Mr. Lincoln", "Mister Roberts", "How Green Was My Valley" and "The Quiet Man".

That leaves us with eight and one more multiple elimination round. Vote off the THREE weakest links!

I consider the elimination of the Quiet Man to be an insult by the forum to all Irish Americans!

    I'm half-Irish - should I be half-insulted? :D

(I was one of those who voted to lose it... :hide:)

That was quick. Had to go for Rio Grande, Liberty Valance and Stagecoach. Love them all, however.

    Not happy.

And now I gotta scramble to protect The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance?

The idea is to vote for the weakest link. TMWSLV ain't it.

I was surprised "Mister Roberts" went so soon, too...

I have not voted at all because there are no 'weak' films in this bunch, or the previous ones. We're talking about the greatest American director (in my opinion).

I only voted for one last round, but I just can't vote to eliminate any other movies, from my favorite director. People who haven't seen many of these movies are really missing some great movies.

Difficult, isn't it? My favourite is Clementine and it's going...

These threads aren't meant to solely eliminate "weak" films. That's what makes them interesting: you need to eliminate what you perceive as the weakEST of the bunch.

If you think every movie John Ford made is of identical quality, I guess you're out of luck, but I find it hard to imagine anyone believes there's no variation in quality among his films.

I think it's a misconception that a vote to eliminate a film in the WLs equals an indication you think that film is "bad". I vote to drop great films all the time - it's the nature of the WL beast...

There's always been a question of how much of the footage Ford shot is left in the final cut, I think, leaving aside the issue that Mervyn LeRoy reportedly tried to maintain Ford's style while he was directing. And then there is the question of how much of the film was actually directed by Joshua Logan, who isn't even credited...
