This was a bit more widespread than I originally believed.

The case of the King Crimson "Discipline" was because Fripp discovered the design wasn't public domain after it had been issued believing it to be an ancient design although he commissioned someone to come up with something similar but different.

Relevant since I was needle dropping it this week and noticed this.

Shine on Brightly (Procol Harum) was issued with a different cover in the US and UK, for some reason.

Blind Faith and Electric Ladyland, for obvious reasons.

    Also King Crimson's Islands.

My vinyl is cream colored. Well, actually, the vinyl is black but the cover that the vinyl goes in is cream colored. ;)
Perhaps there were different colored covers in different countries?

Always hated the CD cover...like the LP cover better luckily the Mofi and the reissue (IIRC) something closer to the original cover.

Original cover intended by record company, never used because the band hated it:

First release cover only on the German pressing and LP. The band thought it was ridiculous and had it changed later (it's known as the flying frog):

And I'm sure if we get too heavily into foreign variants there could be a million, but I always thought these Japanese KISS examples were interesting (I especially like the Elder one)

One obvious one (to me) is Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark. There's tonnes of variations of it as you can see on a Google search.

I never understood why my CD of The Beatles Rubber Soul had the title in gold on the cover while all of my UK and import LP copies had the title in red.
