I am sooo pleased that Basra has finally received a release date. It's been a long, long wait. This is the first album I've preordered, maybe ever now that I think about it. Originals are price prohibitive and I've been living with a Japanese lp replica on cd for years. In fact I bought it the day I heard an original on a guys mega-buck system. It blew me away. He no longer had a need for the cd so I was able to buy it from him right then and there. But I've wanted a good lp version.

I've been listening to a test pressing of "Takin' Off". It is absolutely sublime. The MM Crew has been saving some of the best for last.

Yes, please let us know. Does listening mean you have a needledrop or do you have an actual copy?

I'll have to wait a few months. Living on the other side of the ocean is forcing me to ask Musicmatters to hold the albums for me till I got 6 or 8 albums. But then I will have a great Christmas present for myself...

Musimatters announced some time ago another 13 new releases in the Blue Note series.
If you count the upcoming albums on the musicmatters site there are only 12 albums.
What happened to Francy Boland's Golden Eight ?

Two artists I would love to see on MM (add in Monk as well). I have relegated myself to the Herbie Nichols Complete Blue Note Mosaic vinyl set which sounds very good.

Oh how sweet. I really wanted them to do Horace Parlan's "Headin' South" and thought it had been canceled.

"Just when I thought I was out - they pull me back in!" (with Al Pacino emphasis)

I was worried that the upcoming Universal/EMI merger would put an end to the Music Matters releases. These October 2012 announcements show that not to be the case. Knock on wood...

Much thanks to Music Matters, Blue Note/EMI, Michael Cuscuna, the remastering team, et al, for keeping this series going.

I always thought that the "Golden Eight" album was a surprising choice for Music Matters to make:

    1. It's a recording that Alfred Lion seemingly purchased rather than produced himself
    2. Most wouldn't guess it's a Blue Note record just by listening to the performances (just my opinion - and I do like the album)
    3. Recorded in West Germany (no link to RVG or the "classic" Blue Note sound that the M.M. people covet)

Maybe an explanation will appear someday. Its disappearance is not a huge loss (to me) considering the other classics Music Matters are reissuing.

It's rather a rare album, not easy to find a re-issue @ a decent price, but also its a Belgian musician. So I would be glad to see some pictures on the inside of the gatefold.
The Music is unknown to me. But I was really looking forward to it....

On the other hand I'm very glad that another six albums are ready to be released, so its obvious that the Musicmatters serie is far away from the finishline...
Mode for Joe, Royal Flush & The Gigolo are all favorite albums...

Ron Rambach & the other guys... WELL DONE and thanks for the efforts !
To Ron: In 2014 Blue Note exists 75 years! Will there be a special Musicmatters album for this anniversary ?

Mine is at the office waiting for me to pick it up, along with my Verve subscription from AP/QRP. Looks like my Prestige subscription also shipped, so I'll pick them all up at once in a day or two. Along with some classical eBay purchases I will have quite some new goodies to listen to this week.
