There is a 10 yr. old thread about irritating commercials that fizzled out, that's a long time, so let's have a more modern version!
Commercials are largely better now, but there are still some that are so stupid they're insulting!
Just looking for a little fun here, despite the negative title...

I, for one, have had enough of the viagra, cialis, or any other ads for cures of "E.D."!....ugh!
I'm no prude, far from it, but it's cringe-worthy for me!

What say you? There's a boatload of 'em I could go on about, but I want to hear other's examples first...

The one for AT&T with the 4 little kids and the guy asking them a question. An automatic channel change for me anytime one of those comes on.

The State Farm ads where the person in trouble sings the "like a good neighbor" jingle all off-key and the State Farm agent appears like a genie....mute button time!!

The most annoying one on the air currently has gotta be the Progressive Insurance commercial that features Michael Buffer doing his famous "Let's get ready to ruuummmmbllleeee!!!", except the "uuuuuuummmmmmm" part gets stuck for probably 20 of the 30 seconds worth of the ad. I'm not doing a good job of explaining, but if you've seen it I'm sure you'll know which one I mean.

Ditto. I know they are a great insurance company but their commercials are always awful. They really need to change ad companies.

Here In L.A. KNX/KWFB radio have a "voice-over" ad man with the most annoying, screaming like a huckster voice. He seems to be on almost every commercial, too. He is extremely difficult on the ears.

Any Bud Light commercial. Wow, they make it look so cool to drink perhaps the worst beer out there! (sarcasm meter)

The Pitbull ones were the worst. No idea how that guy got famous. Lowest common denominator anyone!?

I can't remember what the commercial was advertising because I never got far enough into it to find out, but it started as a slow motion of a kid screaming and morphing into something. I hated it and it was such an annoying premise. As soon as the shot would come on, I switched.

Those pharmaceutical ads that spend ten seconds telling you the benefits and then twenty seconds on horrifying side effects. They always make me think of SNL's Happy Fun Ball ad.

Those progressive Insurance commercials annoy me because they are usually lame, but, I can't think of any that grind my gears. They just don't affect me much.

Anything mentioning trans-vaginal mesh. It sounds absolutely horrific.

I saw a commercial that equated toilet paper with a washing machine - something about how do you keep your choners clean(!). I assume that the implication was that cheap tp leads to, ahem, racing stripes. Anyway, I was horrified :yuck

All commercials annoy me. That's why we switched to viewing only on DVD and Netflix streaming.

For the most part I DVR programs we watch and zoom past the commercials. Back before 1980 (and our beloved Ronnie) there was a fixed limit by the FTC on how many minutes/half hour could be set aside for commercials. What I don't understand is why advertisers feel that piling on about 6-7 minutes of commercials is a good way to go. If I were in charge, there would be 20-30 second commercials that were almost too short to skip over.

As far as the Bud Light commercial, isn't Coors Light even worse "world's most refreshing beer"?

There's one running here- a long pitch for a cut rate facelift method that features Debbie Boone. At the beginning of the spot, she turns to the camera and smiles, except it's this horrible grimace that shows all her teeth and gums, after which she - actually, I don't know what she does after that. I have my eyes closed, but the image stays in my mind for hours.

And did you notice that they don't play her song "you light up my life". Like she doesn't own rights or something.

Almost all of them...thank goodness for DVR's! Without getting into the politics, I'm just so sick and tired of seeing the guy be the no-brain ******* that can't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel....it's just plain wrong and not helpful for anyone.

We haven't had a TV connection in the US since 1996. We did have cable in the Czech Republic between 1998-2003 but the non-commercial channels are actually worth paying the small fee for. That said I do watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" every morning on the TV Land website and I find all of the commercials annoying and bloated with social propaganda. The one exception is the Tide commercial with the "Pop Goes The World" cover because I like the song.

  23. Ads for cars with automatic transmissions (the Coors Light of transmissions)! Borrrring! Fits into the grinding my gears thread. :D

    Any that involve:

    shouting
    beating drums or pseudo-techno noise
    celebrity endorsements
    hallmark guilt cards
    fast food
    children
    dogs
    cats
    bodily functions
    sexual aids
    automobiles, trucks & recreational vehicles
    alcohol
    pharmaceuticals
    legal services
    tax solutions
words created by ad men (everything from bubblicious to dewmocracy)
shirtless men (okay, I am slightly amused by the Southern Comfort ad)
anything that promotes fear in the elderly

I like the Invent Help ads: "Most people don't make any money on their inventions." Right up front.
Imagine a prescription drug ad with such integrity: "This will possibly kill you."

I'm looking forward to marijuana commercials by year's end!

I just hate commercials with poor production quality. There was this Geico Ad with a man on a motorcycle, who was made of dollar bills. but the whole visual look of the ad jusat made me want to yak... I couldn't even describe it. It's like they filmed the background at 24fps, filmed the guy on a greenscreen at 60, and then slowed the whole thing down to 18.
i dunno I'm probably way off, but something about that ad just looks wrong. I hate it more than any other.
