Also the Tchaikovsky concerti for DG along with the Morton Gould Boogie Woogie Étude issued in a DG double a decade ago. In one of his Decca live CDs, he performs the Copland El Salon Mexico arranged for piano! Really delicious.

FYI - Sony remastered the Brahms concertos and Beethoven concertos 3 and 4 as part of their Masterworks Heritage and Great Performances series. These are usually improvements, so I hope that's what you get in the box. In my experience with Szell recording, Sony's remasterings are for the better.

For the Brits on this thread, the first time I ever heard of Myra Hess was via "Beyond the Fringe," where she is portrayed by Dudley Moore.

It's actually in the second part, but more fun to watch from the beginning.

Apropos Spanish Guitar Music: I have an obscure 2-CD set I picked up a while ago entitled "Spanish Classical Guitar" or "Guitarra Clasic Espanol" on a Chinese label - the catalogue number is SC-019, and the manufacturer, I think, is East Dragon. It is 'DSC' and the ISBN is either 7-88044-342-8 or 9 787880 443424 > Does anyone have any idea who plays on this, where it's from, etc., etc. It sounds very nice, but the metadata when I put it in the computer merely says "Various Artists" I think ...

How about Eileen Joyce? I heard she was an exceptional pianist ... Are you familiar with her recordings, George?

This was supposed to be another Qualiton Imports label. It is always sad to see a business that was opened back in the 1960's to be gone forever ... :righton:

Now starting with track #31 - finished listening to track #30 yesterday. The total playtime for SACD1 is over 4 hours and 10 minutes so it does not look like I will finish listening this SACD this evening either ...

The first movement of the 40th symphony here is too slow for me, but the rest of the set is wonderful. Listening to symphonies 40, 32 and 38 this morning.

The best Schumann PC by Rubinstein and one of the best ever by anyone, IMO.

I wish the sound quality was a bit better on this 1947 recording. He also recorded it in 1958 and 1967. I haven't heard those versions yet.

The divine providence took care of it along with some other milestone recordings ;) ; otherwise the younger generations would try in vain.
