The Benefit remix is now due for release in October 2013 (probably a digipack with extensive sleeve notes etc), and the Chateau/APP package will be released in 2014.

The delay has been due to recent record company changes.

The latter package will include an extra 10 minutes of Chateau stuff, all without the 1990s added flute, while the APP remix will have Steven Wilson either following or ignoring IA's suggestion to leave some instruments out to make it sound less dense and complex.

More info, including IA's reappraisal of APP, will be in a major Record Collector feature later this summer.

Coming soon is a deluxe edition of Benefit (Ian Anderson had always disliked the mix of this album, so he worked together with Steven Wilson to capture the sound he always wished it had) which will contain several bonus tracks on a separate disc.

The other deluxe edition is A Passion Play which will also contain newly remixed versions of the Chateau D'isaster Tapes (for those unfamiliar these tapes were an aborted concept album that was shelved and then A Passion Play was recorded instead).

Following the release last year of the 40th anniversary edition of Thick as a Brick, on 28th October Chrysalis Records will release a Collector’s Edition of Jethro Tull’s Benefit album.

Benefit was Jethro Tull’s third album, first released in April 1970. Transcending the blues influences of their 1969 album Stand Up, it was a much more hard-rocking album which saw the band utilise more advanced studio techniques. It reached number 3 in the UK.

    WOW!
The mono Witch's Promise single finally makes it to CD. What I want to hear are Singing All Day and Inside in Mono--I've always thought they sounded like they were recorded together. Cornick's bass sound is very similar.

I am afraid the new stereo mixes will only be available in lossy Dulby form (except for the vinyl)... Please, no.

I'm pretty fired up about this. Will "Benefit" finally sound good? I hope so...

One question - I notice that "Alive and Well and Living in" is also on disc 2 - is there another version of that song? I've always wondered why this cut wasn't on the US version of Benefit, it's probably my favorite song on the album. Beautiful...

Was it remixed for Living In The Past?

I'm placing my order as soon as it's listed !

Oh and I'm wondering...when we see the product as shown, so long as it's not photoshopped, are those test pressings or just the first off the line ? If so, surely they'd listen to them for quality control and any possible defects etc....right ?

Just listened to that tune on my original vinyl "Benefit" vinyl and on the Mofi LITP...the Mofi is a bit clearer and fuller but doesn't sound like a remix to me.

Nice! This is exactly how I was hoping it would be packaged (bonus CD with extra material + DVD). Was on the fence about this, but a definite buy now.

This is going to be cool not only a remix and 5.1 mix, but flat transfers of the original mix in 24/96 and vinyl!!

  25. Anybody has any idea where the vinyl should be pressed in the USA? I personally need JUST the stereo remix of the album, and it doen't look so far like there will be a cheap, no-deluxe CD solution (as for the 2011 "Aqualung")... Or perhaps I will ask Santa for the import vinyl (subject to first reading the reviews here of course).

The ad wording "much more hard-rocking" from the jtull.com page is deluding... If anything, "Benefit" is less hard rocking than "Stand Up", in the traditional sense at least...
