You have to appeal to people's higher sense. There has always been lots of junk music. Sometimes you have to try and point out something good to people, all this "this is the way the music business works jazz" I know all about it. Sometimes people gotta stand up and root for something good. Miley Cyrus for crying out loud, how did the type of chicks that used to hang out in the wings at the show, somehow start becoming the actual artist? People don't care about talent anymore, its all interactive like a video game, people want to be the singer, they don't care if the singer has a musical creative brain, they don't want to admire the music, and hear it, they want to be an equal symbiotic part of it. Its becoming a very sick world for the arts. Yet nice albums like this one still persist on the edges. The world isin't flat, and Miley Cyrus and Cher are not artists. they are closer to an abomination

Right and this sort of thing has been going on for years with MANY artists, but McCartney as well. Kisses On the Bottom had the deluxe edition, Memory Almost Full had the deluxe edition... etc.

Up until, well, just about yesterday or the day before, there seemed to be two accepted truths around here.

    1. Anything under 100,000 US would be commercial disappointment
    2. The amount of promotion he's done around New has been unprecedented ["He must know he's really got something!"]

Now that the numbers are in, 66,000 is an almost historic achivement and he didn't really promote much.

Thank you for the post on the actual music on New. "On my way to work" continues to haunt me. I love his voice and for lack of better word - accent on this song. The story of cigarette packets remind me of collecting baseball cards as a little boy. My own three sons continue to like "New" and "Save us"...and actually get a little scared with the song scared. Last song on the album slow, the word scared....etc...

I can't wait to hear the vinyl (although I haven't ordered yet), and the other unreleased tracks. And, of course see the video.

For others what is their current favorite from New?

If I cared at all about the elitist mindset you are espousing, I would spend all of my time listening to Eric Dolphy and operas and Mozart instead of to Paul McCartney's new pop album.

But keep on fighting the good fight against Miley Cyrus.

You seems to be very upset over Pauls promotionteam. Me I don t care feel extremely happy about this great album. Actually I could name plenty things in the world that concerns me more than Maccas recordsales. But of course to each their own .

McCartney talks about the phrasing on when he says Chichester, and how that rolls off the tongue cool, and about the rhythmic cadence of the Queenie eye words from the childrens game... I think its either in the NPR radio broadcast, some of it maybe from the making of Queenie Eye Video. He takes more care in phrasing than people realize. It reminds me of some of that cool Beatles phrasing from the sixties very cool stuff. This is a great album

"Hosanna" and "Early Days", and "Appreciate" and "Road" are cool tunes.

Not too big on "Everybody Out There" but it doesn't make me cringe.

I still need to give it some spins. I don't think it's a very immediate album but the songs stick more after repeated listens.

We all have talents in life, and I'm beginning to recognize yours. You sir are good at cutting down, putting words in peoples mouths, and twisting what they say. If there is an elitist between us, I think it may be you!

I care with a passion about this album, how it is percieved, how it sells, and yet I am totally powerless to affect sales, people's perception of the album, but I do have a passion for this album and McCartney's body of work.. You don't seem to tolerate people well, who's views may differ from yours. Perhaps a doctor could help?

I have no axe to grind with Miley Cyrus, I am just stating the obvious, cute young girl, with very little talent, who is a big star because she poses half nude onstage and online ? I'm just pointing out, she looks nice, but what on earth does that have to do with music? her album is called Bangerz? How artsy

Play the album at least once a day. That's more than C&C+MAF combined.

I don t wanna offend anyone but some of the postings here reminds me of the two old hecklers in the Muppet show. Fact is - macca has produced an album of extraordinary quality (many think so) so why on earth this bisarre discussion comparing sales. Unbelivably

Could have been better. New missed the 'traditional' promotion in The Netherland in the week before release on the popular Dutch station Radio 2. They announced the premiere of New but at the last moment the McCartney management vetoed, being afraid of a leak prior to international release. Now the station played the album the week after release in an evening show. So New missed some really good promotion. Silly management issues.

You should really concern yourself less with my posts, whether you think their subjects are relevant in your limited world view, and what emotional states you presume they display. I suggest you put me on ignore if you can't handle dragging your eyes across opinions that are different than yours.

I have nothing against that little girl but let's face it, without her daddy's connections, her only hopes of being famous would be through porn. It is not a good fight against that little girl.Lady Gaga, rihanna etc. etc. show that people who buy music these days are mostly ignorant and easily amused by trash.

Do you have access to the German or Swedish Charts there? to see how he did there? He sold less than three thousand in Holland?

I love the slightly darker "vibe" that Macca has going for Looking at Her. "She's good, she's kind, she's so refined but me...... I'm losing my mind"

Now, THAT is a truly great and sophisticated pop song!

Worthy of Abbey Road or The White Album IMHO!

Me too - and once again really dig his voice. Very Beatle-esque - and I think that John and George would have approved! I asked before but wonder if Ringo has said anything about the new album? I remember him commenting on Kisses on the bottom - thaat he never heard that voice from Paul - but liked it.

Yes, the Losing my mind is awesome. I would seriously like to hear a remix using that as a central piece.
