How exactly is Elton more "qualified" to be a on a Beatles/Sullivan tribute show than Dave Grohl?

Were full Sullivan shows broadcast in the UK?

Well, Elton worked with all four Fabs. No the Sullivan shows were never broadcast here.

I'd like the Sullivan show and a nice restored version of the Washington Coliseum concert.

Grohl has directly collaborated with Paul onstage at least 4 times. Plus he's done 2 Beatles related movies.

What did Elton do with Paul or George other than some Prince's trust onstage scrum "finale"? I'm drawing a blank. With Ringo I only recall the TRex movie.

Elton played on George's 'Cloud 9' album, wrote and played on Ringo's 'Snookeroo' and - as you say - played alongside him in 'Born To Boogie'.

Elton is one of the few people who performed live with all four Beatles after the breakup. I think Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, and Jim Keltner are the only others.

I just read about this show Friday in the NY Daily News...just a few line about CBS planning a 2 hour special on the Beatles
arrival here in the states and the Ed Sullivan show.....I really expected a documentary type show about the days after their arrival and leading up
to the performance on the show Sunday night.....what a crock this is!!!!!!!!!! They are clueless......but why should this shock me.
As a Beatle fan why would I want to watch this...

This was probably the most inexpensive way to cash in on the anniversary. Even better to me would be to remaster, restore and re-release on blu ray "A Hard Day's Night" or since this tribute will occur on TV maybe a new dramedy where you look at the lives of teenagers in the 60s centered around a showing of AHDN at a drive in. Sort of like "American Graffiti" meets "A Hard Day's Night."

Anyway, I think AHDN perfectly captures the frenzy and fun of Beatlemania and the charisma of the Beatles, has some great music, was itself an influential film and deserves an upgrade.

I wish someone with a clue would be in charge of these things. The whole concept of these 'tribute' shows has been done to death and it's always so cheesy with celebs reading scripts about how much their lives were affected by the artist followed by inferior live perfomances that just make you sad or disgusted. I would rather see the other cheesy choice: celebs talking about how they were affected but followed by actual clips of the boys... at least that would be something. Damn, I can imagine such cool things they could do... imagine having Paul & Ringo together watching the original footage and giving their comments and stories (assuming producers could make that happen) :shake:

Yes, and actually he should be on the live list too. He played with John at Live Peace in Toronto, George and Ringo at The Concert for Bangladesh, and Paul (and Ringo again) at The Concert for George.

Elton is Sean Lennon's godfather. I reckon that gives him a clear edge.
