Thanks. I'll just mark the single disc the next time I update the full list.

Thanks. I am curious about these. I wonder if the "L.A. Woman" CD is the same mastering as the 40th Anniversary Edition.

Forever Young/"The Red Sale" series was released at a low price in Japan this year. I think they are HDCD -- I would have to see the back of the obi for each title to know for sure. My guess is some (or all) might be the 1999 Botnick/Grundman HDCD remasters; however, the 2006 remix for the debut album has appeared on the Japan SACD and seems popular, so it could be a mixed series.

The time difference between disc #1 LAW deluxe and the 99 remaster is due to indexing length between tracks. It is shorter for the deluxe. Mastering sounds the same. Someone else can check the EAC level to confirm.

Just for the record, the 40th deluxe is dated as a 2011 release.

In regards to disc # 1, the times listed in the booklet are wrong for every single track. Except for L' America, which is listed correctly at 4:34.

Not that it matters but wasn't it released in January 2012?

I edited my post to read dated as 2011.

Amazon has it listed as a 2012 release.

And yes it matters, I don't want to create more confusion.

I'll change the 40th Anniversary Edition to 2011 if this is the date on the CD.

    Interesting.

Is "L'America" the same length on both discs? The CDs are different lengths and I wonder if something has been changed on this track. Does anyone know why the 40th Anniversary Edition 18 seconds shorter?

    1999 - L.A. Woman - Botnick/Grundman - HDCD - 48:51
    2011 - L.A Woman - 40th Anniversary Edition - HDCD - 48:33

I guess the 98.9% level is the "Botnick/Grundman level." The 1999 "The Soft Parade" is also all 98.9%.

Can anyone fill in the play times for these?

    1985 - L.A Woman - no mastering credit -
    1988 - L.A. Woman - Rothchild/Botnick/Doors -
    1993 - L.A Woman - DCC - Hoffman - 49:02
    1999 - L.A. Woman - Botnick/Grundman - HDCD - 48:51

    2000 - L.A. Woman - DVD-Audio - Botnick - 48.36
    2011 - L.A. Woman - 40th Anniversary Edition - HDCD - 48:33

    2012 - L.A Woman - mastering? -

Most tracks lose 2-3 seconds on the 40th.Anniversary. Maybe they just removed the spaces between the tracks. Need to check that later.

I have this 2003 long box reissue of "The Complete Studio Recordings”:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000A1LSP

In it both "Waiting For The Sun" and "Soft Parade" mistakenly have the 1988 mastering. From earlier Doors threads I got the impression that maybe only the first pressings of these two titles (in original box set and early stand alone CD's?) use the 1999 remastering and then after a while some error made them revert back to the previous mastering.

Interesting. I'll make a note the next update.

What are the catalogue and matrix numbers for these two?

    "Waiting For The Sun": 62434-2C (Matrix: 2 62434-2.3 02)
    "Soft Parade": 62434-2D (Matrix: 2 62434-2.4 02)

So they look like remasters, but the content is the same as my older CD's.

    Thanks.

I wonder if all the "02" matrix numbers from the 2009 reissue are all incorrect. The matrix from the 2001 "The Soft Parade" single CD I have ends with "01."

How long are your "Waiting For The Sun" CDs? We may know by looking at the time.

Waiting For The Sun (1988) -
Waiting For The Sun (1999) -

    The Soft Parade (1988) - 33:50
    The Soft Parade (2001 single HDCD CD) - 33:54 - 2 62434-2.4 01 - EAC: all tracks 98.9%

All the CD's in my box end with "02" but the others have the '99 remastering (with HDCD), so there is no way to visually distinguish these.

    Waiting For The Sun ("1988") - 33:14
Waiting For The Sun ("1999") - 33:14 (2003 box set)
(These have the wrong take of "Wintertime Love" and the long "We Can Be So Good Together".)

    The Soft Parade ("1988") - 33:52
    The Soft Parade ("1999") - 33:53 (2003 box set)
(So these are not 100% identical, but the one in the box does not have HDCD encoding and sounds exactly like the old copy.)

I double checked the timings in a different player and then got 2 seconds less for all four of them, so I am not sure this is a good way to compare...

I should add that my "old" CD's are made in Germany, so that can account for slight differences. They do not state a year except the original release year but I bought them in mid ninties before the remasters came out. When I check the catalogue numbers on Amazon I get 1991, so I am not sure calling them "1988" is correct, where does this year come from?

The previous remasters were first released in 1988. Are they mastered by Rothchild/Botnick/Doors from the original master tapes for superior sound?

Okay, I'll include the times and the EAC numbers for the correct 1999 remasters. "The Soft Parade" and "L.A. Woman" are all 98.9%.

"Waiting For The Sun" can also be determined by the wrong vocal take on "Wintertime Love."

    Waiting For The Sun (1988) - 33:14
Waiting For The Sun (1999) -

    The Soft Parade (1988) - 33:50
    The Soft Parade (1999) - 33:54 -HDCD - EAC: all tracks 98.9%

Something else that adds to the confusion when discussing the 1999 remasters is that in Europe (and other parts of the world as well, Australia at least) these were introduced as "secret remasters", they looked exactly like the older CD's, the only difference was the packaging which had a clear plastic tray and a grey inlay card that said "Digitally Remastered" along the edge (the same thing happened with The Eagles' remasters).

So while the US remasters are clearly different by apperance the European remasters look just like the previous CD's, both disc and artwork (except the inlay card under the tray). I have seen this muddy the waters before when participants from both sides of the pond discuss this, so I thought it should be mentioned.

I need the EAC numbers and time for the 1999 Waiting For The Sun.

Incorrect masterings have not been reported for the original 1999 The Complete Studio Recordings at this time.

They were released in Japan. They are the 1999 masterings. They *might* say HDCD on the back of the obi.

I'll add something about the tray card for the European single CD release of the 1999 masterings. What are the catalogue numbers for these?

My Japanese release thread is about done. I am trying to find out exactly what was released in 2012. They are probably the HDCDs, but I want to be sure for each title.

Everything is exactly the same as the "1988" CD's, as far as I remember, but I don't own any of these.

I thought these were supposed to be the 40th remixes, except we established "Waiting For The Sun" (once again) mistakenly uses the 1988 mastering? It would be great if those that might have any of these could verify what mix/mastering is on each title in this 2012 release series, and do this by listening and not reading, because as should be obvious by now you can't judge a Doors CD by the covers...

I was wondering about the Japan CDs from the 2012 Forever Young "The Red Sale" series. They might be budget reissues of the last WPCR Forever Young series, which use the HDCD remasters.

Keith is going to checkout these US pressings.

This is the list I put together of Japanese releases. There area few imports included.

    The Doors releases in Japan.

    1986/05/25

The music on this Compact Disc was originally recorded on analog equipment. We have
attempted to preserve, as closely as possible, the sound of the original recording. Because
of its high resolution, however, the Compact Disc can reveal limitations of the tape source.

Amazon Japan released these UK import titles. I can't find any Japanese pressings
with the Rothchild/Botnick/Doors remasters. Other than the 18P2 The Soft Parade,
this could be the first release of these masterings in Japan. These may have been

Thanks. I was just curious why the time for the original mix CDs vary so much since many are from the master tapes -- tape stretch, I guess ;). It isn't really important for listing the masterings.

I think I just need info for the 2012 masterings.

I thought there were Japan 2012 masterings until I realized I was confusing them with the 2013 Forever Young red obi discs from the 140 title series.

I just had a thought. Do the CDs with the grey inlay card have red or brown, etc. paint on the disc face? and do the original CDs have a silver face?
