This is a worst-case scenario variation of the usual "what are your favorites" kind of thread, but as the fires burn here in LA I've actually started thinking about the LPs I'd grab once the family, dog, and passports are secure. If there was time to prepare I'd probably fill a couple of crates with 100 albums or so, nothing I could easily replace. I'm thinking about the HorZu Sgt. Pepper and MMT, UK Joy Division, UK/German Pink Floyds, original Cure, Siouxsie and Smiths, that kind of stuff. I hope it never comes to that!

None. I'd grab the hard drives. My music collection is on there (plus all of my own music, other work I do, a bunch of other stuff I can't replace, etc.). I still have some CDs and vinyl, but everything is on the hard drives, too. I wouldn't even need to do that so much, because I have a backup I keep in a safe-deposit box, and I swap it with a backup at home once per week, but just to be safe, I'd try to grab the hard drives.

Definitely the one I was playing at the time, because, if I was midway through it, that might come back to me as an insistent earworm, mentally connected to the tragedy. Then I couldn't replace the disc until after the inevitable drawn-out lawsuit, and who needs that kind of distraction when you're up against an insurance company legal team!

I mean a house fire is bad enough...but an earworm! :yikes:

And what if it's in the middle of my routine inventory list, and I'm right in the middle my Ray Stevens comp...or, Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling"! :yikes: :yikes:

(Nice to see I have my priorities in order, yes?)

I've spent a ton of time doing transfers of all my vinyl, I would go for the HD's as well.
Of course this is when everyone including pets are safe.

My external hard drive. All my music is stored in Apple Lossless format. So I could just create a new iTunes library again :)

Madonna's The Immaculate Collection and Stevie Wonder's At the Close of a Century four-disc set come right to mind. The rest, it depends how much two hands could hold.

Wow - you're MUCH better than me - I'd toss my mother-in-law toward the fire to buy myself some extra time even if I knew it couldn't (couldn't pass up the opportunity) lol.

    I'd grab:

    - the cat and maybe the kids if we could find them under the pile of crap in their rooms
    - our "go bag" (critical documents, back drives of my digital media and images of our computers, cash)
    - All of my pressings of "The Doors - The Doors"
    - All of my pressings of "Led Zeppelin II and IV"
    - My collection of 70's and 80's Canadian rock albums (already segregated so it would be a quick grab)
    - My NAD 3150 (I'm lovin' that amp more by the day lol)

If I had time I'd go back in and grab the wifie's opera albums and toss them into the fire one by one. Apologies to the opera fans here, I do respect you and your music choice, I simply can't get into opera and - again - couldn't pass up the opportunity lol ;)

I would grab my laptop which has a major part of my collection on it. Also, I already have my Stones, Kinks and Beach Boys collections in boxes that would be easy to grab (and the first things I would grab).

Another option is to just stay. Might as well go down with your vinyl. Just put this on for a list spin.

Depends on what kind of fire we are talking about, but If I have time to grab only 1 music related possession it is the primary HD.

If the situation was so dire I only had time to grab a few albums, then I'd deduce that it was crazy to grab any, and get out quickly.

Because that record is where my music adventure started. It's the only LP I still own.

    U2-Red Rocks-Radio Show 2 LP

A second run back into the inferno I`d grab:
    Abbey Road-UK
    Black Sabbath-Paranoid UK Vertigo
    REM-Seattle`84 Radio Show
    Diamond Head-Lightning To The Nations
Led Zeppelin-The Song remains The Same`76

This is all half jokingly-I`d probably be blocks away in minutes!

None. They're in my basement, and I ain't going down there in the event of a fire. If I could grab anything it would be my late mother's and grandmother's paintings. They already lost my grandmother's largest work when The Meadows of Dan Baptist Church burned several years ago.
