After a long night of partying, and listening to a number of albums already mentioned in this thread, someone would slip on this album of rocks songs ALL PLAYED ON KAZOO. Lets just say, in the "right frame of mind" this was disablingly funny. We laughed till we cried. Couldn't find it on youtube.

Parties are too much expense; what to wear, new clothes, new haircut, and over in a few hours.
I spent my money - every spare cent I had in school and college - on records, which I still have.
"But you meet new people?"
Yes, but have they heard of King Crimson?!

 

During my teenage party years, it never failed that i would hear 40oz to Freedom by Sublime, Licensed to Ill by Beastie Boys, Blood Sugar Sex Magik by RHCP, Sparkle & Fade by Everclear or the RATM debut at most every party. Sometimes all within the span of a single party night! Lol.

I grew up in Philly and graduated HS in 1980. There wasn't a house party in the city that didn't have this thundering out of the speakers at some time during the gig.

Oh, man, lots of Y&T on our cassette decks in high school, especially Earthshaker, Black Tiger, and Mean Streak! Saw them last summer here and they (well, Dave) still put on an awesome show.

I'd also add the following rock albums (in no particular order of mid 80s - early 90s high school and college party music):

Depending on the crowd (i.e. if girls were there), we'd skew more into pop and new wave, but this is the stuff we'd listen to when it was just a bunch of goofy guys pounding Budweiser and smoking skunk weed.

The 70's was all about the funk so that we could grind on the girlies - PFunk, EWF, Commodores, Ohio Players, Isley Brothers and the like.

The 80's was more contentious and varied. I wanted to party to Talking Heads and XTC and the Cars, but I still had a lot of friends who only wanted to hear Foreigner, Loverboy, Greg Kihn, etc. and I only wanted to kill myself when they did.

Nowadays, when I have friends over for a party, I load a hugely diverse selection of mostly older stuff onto my iPod and hit shuffle. Then I make sure that the Tequila is flowing nicely. My friends are a lot more open minded that way. Maybe it comes with age too.

I always had an odd focus at parties, never my records, still have records from the 60s unblemished. No matter how wrecked I was once I found the turntable all was well, I would like to think no record was ever damaged by me.
Now its swipe your phone or tablet, half the fun has gone.

I was in music school in the mid-late 80s. An issue with music major parties was that much of what we played and studied didn't really make for good party music. However, parties still weren't judgement free, so hosts were usually very careful about what played, and a few albums became staples. This is why I heard Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles at every single music major party for two years, often multiple times a night.

Why do you ask "were"? Some of us still have party records. And as far as being nicked, if you're careful enough with handling your records, they shouldn't be nicked or marked in ANY way!

 

Class of 83 here- Lived in Navoto for Junior/Senior year....Lot of Y&T
Remember the Skunk for sure... As for the new wave...
Missing persons was big where I lived at the time...and most of my rocker friends liked them.
Novato wasn't much punk territory, but I had a couple friends into it, The Dead Kennedys etc.

Have all albums you list... and everything by all but a couple of those artists.
