Seems like there's gonna be a vinyl reissue of the classic Who Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy. Great Who compilation album!

I assume it'll be from digital, and I also assume the fake stereo tracks on the original will be replaced with true mono versions!

But yes, it's an classic, iconic compilation in my book, perfectly sums up the first part of their career 1965-1970.

The link you've provided goes to a uDiscover age that reads: "Product Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy (5774828) is currently unavailable." Can't find anymore info on this item, either. What was your source? With the singles boxset coming out, it makes sense to make this one available again, but would be interested to know more, if you have the info. Thanks.

They erase the link. Here are the news that appears today in the Udiscover website The Who: Maximum As & Bs Box Set, Plus Coloured Townshend Vinyl, Set For Release

In my experience, there is NOT a really great version of this on vinyl. I might be wrong, and if so I'm happy to be corrected. But every copy I've ever heard is uniformly brittle, noisy, and just a mess. The mixes used are also notoriously hodgepodge, as I understand it.

I had a MCA "comet" label copy back in the late 70s, which I played to death as teenager, having no understanding of mono or fake stereo or, you know, hi fi, but when the reissued CDs came out in the nineties I realized how bad my pressing was. My current Decca pressing, which I bought used about six years ago, is no better, and so I'm pumped at the prospect of a clean, audiophile pressing of this classic comp.

One other thing: I bought that recent vinyl boxset of the Who catalog several years ago, which I quite like. But that set, since it was limited to the studio albums, did not include three essential Who albums, Meaty, Live at Leeds, and Odds and Sods. Now two of the three are being reissued. I also have the Live at Leeds boxset, which included a vinyl repressing of the single-disc version, and so I'll probably stick with that. But a new Meaty for me is a no brainer.

You can bet they cleaned up the small tweak on Magic Bus

The original A1/B1 UK Track is probably the best 'existing' version - but quite a lot of it is fake stereo, so no, not really a 'great' version of this album originally - will be interesting to hear how the new re-issue sounds.

True stereo where available, hopefully, and true mono where it isn't.

Listening right now, and I've kept it clean, and skip-free.
Very interested in hearing reviews of this one.

Since my first copy on vinyl was a gift in 1971, guess this won't be a double dip for me.
