Yes, but for great design, there is a method and a geometry that works in conjunction with function. I don't expect to find that sort of thought in audio. Maybe here and there.

Over the last couple of years my system has benefited from a couple of upgrades that increased the sound quality. I'd be happier if the latest pieces looked better but the sounds they make is really what I'm after.

Do I care about the aesthetics, sure, but not as much as the function.

A decent amount of stock on aesthetics...but other than speakers, I’ve never seen anything unattractive enough not to buy if the price/performance/integration sufficed. Boring, yes, but not ugly.
(as an “aside”, I’ll be making some detachable wood side panels (species tbd) for my recent DAC purchase for potential blingification, as it sits on a top shelf and relatively prominent in my configuration)

Yea, I have one of those too, some pretty nice looking and sounding tables in the late 70s.... The "Picture of your Turntable(s)" thread, Pt. 4 ... regardless what our freeky buddy below thinks :)

Wood grain and turntables do not mix well IMO. It makes them like 60 year old dated relics.

None for me, but Mrs. Hartha has the final say for what's on view in the main room.

Honestly? None, whatsoever. In that regard, I'm practical in that the looks are merely superficial. My stereo is for sound. I don't care what the components look like at all, if they match, etc.

If I close my eyes and the sound is glorious, I'm happy. If the components look nice, it's a bonus but never a dealbreaker to me.

  12. Well I love the wood base on my 80s Dual cs5000 even though I now use a Rega RP6 as my main rig.

Beautiful relics that punch way above their weight compared to modern for the price point.

I rarely have people over to listen to music, so looks are not that important to me. However, my system is vintage and it looks pretty good in my opinion just the same.

  16. I put no stock into the appearance of my audio gear. It's not my Wife, it's a stereo.

For me the music and the environment are both important and the way the gear looks is a big part of the environment. I don’t buy stiff cause of how it looks, but I won’t buy ugly stuff either.

Yeah it's got to look good. Something to take pleasure in all aspects of owning. It's worthy to say it's all about the sound (which of course it is), but not at the expense of being irksome or embarrassing to behold.

:) How could audio components be embarrassing to behold? Just curious. Any examples?

    Thinking hyper-blingy 'statement' pieces. Hmm.

All a matter of taste personal though.

If you saw the room it's in you'd know aesthetic design isn't a factor.
