  1. Yep. I think I saw him first on American Idol with her and they did allow him to step forward for the camera. I was thinking, "Is that NUNO???" Hahaha

If you haven't heard it, their recent album "Saudades du Rock" is fabulous.

Wow, talk about timing! I'm now sitting on a bus heading to work, listening to SdR.

Love the song "Interface". Sounds like it could have been on "III Sides".

I just checked out an Extreme message board and there were actually two more songs played after "Rest In Peace":

    Cupid's Dead
    Take Us Alive

The final four songs serve as the show's encore.

The encore last night featured these four tracks:

    Am I Ever Gonna Change?
    Comfortably Dumb
    Play With Me
    Kid Ego

So, I'm glad the encore is mixing things up a bit.

    Can't wait until Friday night!

Just got home from the show at Shibuya Kokaido Hall.

    Lots of fun!

The concert started at about 7:10 and finished at roughly 9:10. The entire "Pornograffitti" album took about 90 minutes, then they did a 30-minute encore with four songs.

Gary and Nuno pretty much look like they did 20 years ago. Their bodies seem to defy aging... Both were fit and trim, and Nuno looked just totally fine when he took off his shirt...!

Gary is 50 years old? Damn! You never could have guessed that based on the way he tore around the stage! Remarkable showman!

The show had lots of high points, but for me, it must have been the entire encore.

They kicked it off with "Warheads" (which was the show opener when I saw them here in '05). (After doing all of "Pornograffitti", I was hoping they were going to play all of "III Sides" as the encore...;))

The song ended with what sounded like feedback, but then started pulsating - the beginning of "There Is No God"...! Wow! I never figured they'd do this one! Totally amazing live!

One my favorite Extreme songs was up next - "Hip Today"...! Again, I was jazzed to see this one live, and they did it really well!

The final song of the encore (and the evening) was "Mutha (Don't Wanna Go To School Today)". It became rousing sing-a-long with the band and audience.

A great way to end the show!

The main part of the show also had its share of high points - my favorite being Nuno doing the blistering intro to "He-Man Woman Hater". (Judging from the audience's reaction, it was a highlight for them too!)

The arrangement for "When I First Kissed You" was pretty much the same as the album. They set Nuno up with a portable keyboard on the stage and just did it straight. It's not my favorite song on the album, but seeing it done live was nice.

It was a great show, and just another example of why I enjoy going to concerts in Japan more than I do in North America. (Japanese fans are respectful and get into all parts of a concert. The fans here also dig deep tracks (not just the hits), and there is none of the blasé, "too cool for school" attitude many Americans seem to have.)

Gary ended things by saying they'd be back here soon - with new music! (A new Extreme album in 2012? That would be fantastic! (It took me some time to warm to "Saudades de Rock", but now I really enjoy it.))

I'll be seeing them at the M3 Festival in Columbia, Maryland next weekend. I don't think they have played live yet this year so there are no recent setlists to check but I do hope for quite a few songs after the main Pornograffitti set.

What a terrific band. It's really a shame that they were eternally labeled by their two biggest hits. I actually like More than Words and Hole Hearted as very well written songs, but I wish that the other, more prevalent side of their music would have gotten more attention. All of those guys, especially Nuno, were just so amazingly talented. Their vocal blend is astonishing, IMO. I'd love to see them live, but they don't make their way to the southern US very often it seems.

I was just listening to Waiting for the Punchline yesterday at work. I'd forgotten just how good it really is. III Sides is still my favorite of theirs. I'd drive to any location to see that album performed in it's entirety live. I'm just not sure that "hard rock" music got any better than that in teh 90's. There have been many times where people have laughed when I told them that I loved Extreme and then been blown away by them when I played III Sides for them.

I'm generally not into the virtuoso shredder type guitar players, but Nuno is a different story. He has that amazing technique and skill, yet he still understands the idea of song craft and plays for it. The guy comes up with some absolutely killer riffs and his solos are incredibly melodic. Like songs within the song. He has the rare ability to blow you away with his incredible skill, but also leave you humming the melody of his lead work. A prime example of what I'm talking about is the solo in Rest in Peace. For me, it's a gorgeous piece of music within a great song.

I believe the proper progressive metal parlance would be: Nuno is a shredder but not a noodling wanker. :p

This makes me feel really old but the twenty-fifth anniversary of III Sides to Every Story isn't that far off, maybe they will tour it like they did Pornograffitti? Okay, that's very unlikely but it would make their fans very happy!

Pornograffitti has some amazing playing on it. I wish they would play Three Sides also. Nuno is one of the best guitar players to come out of the 90s IMO. The Decadence Dance guitar parts should be required playing for any guitar player. I saw them in a small venue a few months after Pornograffitti was released.

I (finally) picked up the Population 1 and Dramagods albums. It's not quite Extreme but there's some great stuff on them. I'm not always thrilled with the "alternative" leanings of some of his post-Extreme music but I'm glad that he kept releasing new music after the breakup.

I listened to his band Mourning Widows and the Population 1 album and thought they had decent moments, but weren't all that good overall. There is a Population 1 ep titled Sessions from Room 4 that I really enjoyed. It had some killer tunes on it. I also really liked about half of Nuno's Schizophonic album. I never heard the Dramagods album.

I've had the Mourning Widows albums and Population 1 EP for quite a while and generally I agree with you. If you like the EP I think you would like Dramagods too but unfortunately I believe that it was only released in Japan and it is fairly expensive. I loved Schizophonic but after that it felt like he was having trouble combining his "old" sound with his "new" sound. The Population 1 EP was the first time that he hit a good balance and I think the Dramagods album continued that trend. Love is a bit too long, its fourteen songs run over seventy minutes, but you may want to give it a listen.
