These Hollies CDs are upcoming from Warners Japan on April 9. 2014.
Greatest + Singles Vol.1 [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]
    Disc 1: 31 tracks, Disc 2: 31 Tracks
Greatest Vol.2 + Singles Vol.2 [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]
    Disc 1: 23 tracks, Disc 2: 21 Tracks

Features newly edited versions in Japan. The cardboard sleeve faithfully replicates the UK original LP art work. Includes stereo & mono mix tracks if they existed. Comes with a description and lyrics.
Anyone out there able to assist with tracklistings for these?

Tried that and HMV and CD Japan. None seem to have it in English.

I pre-ordered these last month and the release date has been pushed back twice so far. Has "Jennifer Eccles" ever been issued on CD in mono? Curious if we'll actually get the mono 45 mix of "Bus Stop" too. Also looking forward to the track "Jesus I Will." :p

Jennifer Eccles is a weird mono mix on "20 Years" a Polydor CD..along with a few other mono mixes but they just have this weird almost duophonic sound...not a Capitol type process, but
not just a real true mono..it's hard to describe...but Jennifer is from the 45 master cause it has the long ending....
I'm on the fence right now on doing a pre-order for these 2 collections.....it's just gonna but me if they have more of the same masterings from other CD's and not having
the true mono mixes or if they have stereo remixes and not the original stereo mixes....it's a tough call for me and I'm a big Hollies fan.....problem is
I have a lot of this already ...
This would be great if they are original mono mixes...I think I can live with some screw-ups on the stereo tracks....

If you think any diligence is being applied to the sourcing of these Warner Japan Hollies titles, I have some nice swamp land over some sink holes I would love to sell you.

Have plenty of those sink holes right here in Jersey....but yeah...I'm not really expecting much....they make them look really good, but it's the same old same old
as far as the music goes right!!!!!

These showed up when I went home for lunch. I only listened to a few tracks on my way back to work, but "Bus Stop" is the original mono mix. Fingers crossed on the rest of them.

A few more observations from the drive home last night - I haven't compared the mono "King Midas in Reverse" to any versions possibly posted on YouTube, but it was noticeably different than all the stereo versions I own on several Hollies CDs. Also, the mono "Jennifer Eccles" does have the extended ending absent from the stereo version.

I'm not going to have much time to do any in-depth comparisons with an 8-week-old daughter at home, but I'm pleased with what I've heard so far. Time to start at the beginning of disc one and enjoy. If anyone else takes the plunge on these, I'd be interested in any opinions.

That's another plus that "Jennifer Eccles" has the long fade.....As far as "King Midas in Reverse" in mono...Graham Hash's vocal on the intro is single tracked on the mono mix and double tracked in stereo...
That's the easiest way to tell right away.....

    Thanks for the updates....

I know they expanded the original track selections of these original UK LP's for these CD's...."Dear Eloise" was an album track in the UK
and not issued as a single....I'd have to look over the track listings again but I think they used the original UK 45's as the basis for these expanded collections.

I wonder why "I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top" was not included in mono...it was their last mono 45 in the UK...
It's in mono on the CD "At Abbey Road"

I noticed that instantly when I listened to it this morning. I said to myself his vocal has to be double-tracked on the stereo version. I'm really enjoying these volumes so far.

Just got the Vol. 1 this week. I must say it sounds incredible!!! I love the mono disc. Any Hollies fan who doesn't own this should check it out. Incredible sound. I think this is the best I've heard The Hollies on CD!

Love how they used the flip back style for the mini-sleeve. Excellent release! IMG_20140423_123059.jpg

I have to agree...I have both Volumes and the mono stuff sounds really good.....and after a couple listens it seems like they used the correct mono mixes....I only wonder why "I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top" was not included
as a mono version along with it's b-side...it was the last Hollies mono 45 on Parlophone....
The stereo tracks are a mixed bag....they used original stereo mixes.....Ron Furmanek's remixes from the 30th Anniversary Collection and some of the new mixes that were used on The Hollies
Greatest Hits 2 CD set(The blue sky cover with the clouds)from 2003....this set had some of Ron's mixes narrowed a bit as well as a centered vocal version of "Carrie Anne" all of which are on this set...
I have to check a few more stereo b-sides to see if they are also original stereo mixes or all remixes..I know a few did have vintage stereo mixes and most were remixes from the 30th Anniversary Set...

But as I said the mono versions are great and the packaging is amazing...Parlophone labels and Volume 2 has the textured cover to match the original LP.... I thought it was a priced right set
since you are getting 4 CD's....each 2 CD set at approx. $32.00...which is the going rate for 1 Japanese SHM mini LP....

All in one place...Yes. They have been scattered about on numerous CD's and some of the mono mixes used on those CD's were not the original mono mixes..(foldowns)..it's really
been a hodge podge as far as original Hollies mono mixes on CD....plus you get all the b-sides and the Hollies had some really good b-sides.

Do you say "mixed bag" as in not carefully put together, or more in the sense that they may have been trying to select the best existing stereo mix for each given song?

Would you all recommend these as a good starting point for someone who's been planning to get into The Hollies and just happens to be finally getting around to it?

    Thanks.

"Mixed Bag" as far as not sticking to original mixes that exist...as far as picking the best stereo mix sound wise,yes...that's very possible....I have been listening to the Hollies since day 1 so I'm familiar with the original stereo mixes
and we all know how everyone feels about remixes..some like them and some do not....
To answer your question this would be a very good place to get your Hollies collection started and then fill in with some great albums....because keep in mind The Hollies did not
include many of their singles on their albums early on.....and they also had some really good albums.
