It's a travesty that R.E.M.'s Fan Club cover of See No Evil hasn't been collected on CD anywhere. It really swings in a way the original Television version just doesn't.

Magical Mystery Tour was my first Beatles album. I Am the Walrus is brilliant. I thought the Oasis cover was fantastic.

Patti Smith covering Prince. Surprising, but it's a great version.

I was pleasantly surprised how well The Band (w/o Robbie Robertson) covered Bruce Springsteen's "Atlantic City" in the 1990s.

The Pixies, "Wild Honey Pie." They took one of the few throwaway tunes by the Beatles, and absolutely owned it.

Bob & The Original Wailers with Rita Marley doing The Archie's Sugar Sugar. They also did
    a version "What's New P*ssy Cat?"

Peter Tosh & the Wailers' version of The Box Top's "The Letter" was also surprising when i first heard it..

Edit. I guess the p word is not allowed here :shh:

I think you can say Pussycat. Speaking of Tom Jones, loved his cover of Leadbelly's "Black Betty."

Sadly, the band's only other Top 10 hit (it went to #4, the other song being "The Flame" which is their only #1, released off the same album, Lap Of Luxury in 1988). I believe also, that Cheap Trick were one of the only (or few) band's ever to have a Top 10 hit with an Elvis Presely cover, too.

Well, while on the subject of Joan Baez, this cover of her tune was always pretty cool by me...

I remember the first time I heard Michael Hedges cover All Along the Watchtower. Had no idea who he was. Saw this long-haired guy with an acoutic guitar & thought it would sound like Dylan's original. Was blown away & have ben a huge fan ever since.
