Battleship - My son had been telling me this was the best looking Blu Ray he had ever watched so I had to check it out. The picture quality is very good, but I didn't care for the movie. It makes Transformers seem like an art film.

Safe (2010). Not high brow. One of Jason Statham's better efforts

They have been showing tons of John Wayne stuff on Turner Classic Movies, and really late last night they ran the Searchers.
I had to work today, so I couldn't watch it all, but I watched about the first 30 minutes, and it is just perfection.
Odd though, in the intro to the movie, they said John Wayne didn't like the soundtrack, which is a bit old fashioned (Max Steiner), though I think it fits the movie like a glove, couldn't be better, perfectly captures the feel Ford was going for.
Made me want to cry.... and after the Searchers, they showed "The Long Voyage Home", just as good in my book (and damn thing will make you cry as well), if you have never seen it, you are missing out, great Ford movie, it isn't a Wayne picture though..

Last night I watched the Criterion Collection edition of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It looked fantastic and what a cast. Didn't really enjoy it much but I think I'll enjoy watching all the extras though

I just watched a profoundly, weird, dark film, Seven Psychopaths. I have mixed feelings about it but my dog loved it.

I watched that film a few nights ago and didn't enjoy it much (Geez I've been saying that a lot lately ... in something of a dry spell movie-wise I guess). I like some of Colin Farrell (e.g. In Bruges & Saving Mr. Banks) and really like Sam Rockwell (esp in Box of Moonlight & Moon). Sam's got a face that cracks me up for some reason. Anyways, I know other's here have spoken highly of this film which prompted me to purchase it but I didn't really like it that much. :sigh:

I'm still trying to make sense of Seven Psychopaths. Is it a very clever satire or just K-R-A-Z-Y and disjointed? I may watch it again sometime. It's so weird, it has a bit of a Tarantino-ish feel to it with it's joy of violence V-I-B-E.

I like Sam Rockwell too. If you've seen Box Of Moonlight, I live across a creek and up a hill from the pink nightclub in the film. The pink nightclub became white, much to my dismay, 2 years ago. I thought that the pink fit it well. All of Box Of Moonlight was shot in Knoxville or nearby.
