Superchunk has a great song called Abstract Flows that was a 7" add-on to their last record. Kind of feedbacky ambient goodness.

  4. Jethro Tull's "The Pine Marten Jig": a hit in my book!

Ha! I just thought of Wring That Neck- not 10 minutes ago. :D

Another by Purple, 'Owed To G' (CTTB.) I've got the album playing now- so that might have something to do with my inspiration for DP tunes... :shh:

Steppin' Out's a great one too. There's Toad as well, of course.

The Sweet - Air On 'A' Tape Loop (OK, it has some 'words' - Alpha/Beta/Gamma/Delta - but these aren't really lyrics. I mean there are even 'words' in Elton John's Song For Guy)
Electric Light Orchestra - Believe Me Now, Another Heart Breaks (see above)
    Journey - Majestic
Iron Maiden - The Ides of March, Genghis Khan
Love Sculpture - Sabre Dance (well, it doesn't really fit in this tread, because the band is mostly known for THAT instrumental, but they weren't an instrumental act so I mention them)
    Dr. Feelgood - Keeka Smeeka

I agree with "Cry For A Shadow", it's a nice tune. Too bad they didn't dust that one off and do something with it later on.

  23. You beat me to it! ...Plus it WAS a hit in some parts of the world!

Texas Radio & the big beat by the Doors from the album LA Woman was originally an instrumental. Jim added lyrics late on. The original instrumental was included on the 40th anniversary cd
