YUP. Good heavens, Stone Temple Pilots Core was one of the initial and touted releases. Murky analog multitrack tape sound, ugh. THAT is "high resolution"? Puh-leeze, spare me. The Corrs In Blue or whatever, what a vomit sound mix.

Very few gems among the dog poop, at least initially. Not much compelling MUSIC, even aside from all the format stupidities.

Like how DVD-A discs were not mandated to carry a DVD-V sector (though I only ever found one disc that didn't), or, much more seriously, were not mandated to auto-play after a certain time so as to work in TV-less systems such as in a car.

Yes, that's the main attraction for me too.
    Very likely, yes.

Actually DVD-A's are mandated to carry a VIDEO_TS folder, it just doesn't have to have any content.

As far as I'm concerned, DVD-A's sole current raison d'etre is to burn hires audio to disc, since many high res files aren't 24/48 or 24/96 (the only hires that can burn to DVD-V). Once quality Bluray blanks are available at low prices even that will probably disappear.
