Thanks to all for the reviews so far. I got my copy on Friday, but was busy this weekend. So I didn't have the time to listen to my CD. If it's even better than Steve Fallone's remastering it's a well worthy rerelease. Let's hope they will release "Down To Earth" and the other missing albums soon.

Is there a recent SHM of Rising?

Does anyone know if the SHM or Platinum SHM will fit in a standard CD case slot? I know some mini LP CDs are too big.

The SHM Mini Lp's are just like the normal Japanese Mini's size wise.

This one and Difficult to Cure are "HR cutting" SHM's. Every "HR cutting" SHM disc I've researched seems to be cut from a different cloth than than old SHMs, which I never had a high opinion of. I wonder if they will eventually do "HR cutting" versions for other albums by Rainbow?

If you want to buy it, send me that beautiful mini LP cover and i'll send you the jewel case from the Gur remaster for you to stick the SHM disc in so it fits in your case. Problem solved! :righton:

 I have the remaster, too. It is still lame they could not make them the same size. I have a feeling the new Zeppelin deluxe CDs will also be too large. That is why I love AF. They always fit.

Has anybody else heard this CD and compared it to the original Polydor?

Still no audiophile sound ;) but the SACD is better.

I guess you would not happen to have any DR numbers or EQ graphs laying around? :D

I don't need the DR.... I just looked to my reference (first pressing)

The SACD comes very close to the SACD.... the Steven Fallone tracks are also good, but only the 3rd choice.

I appreciate the info, Claus, but I need it compared to the original Polydor CD. I may just have to take a chance and buy the SHM version.

    I answered your question #38

More details... my ranking is as follows:

    1. Original Polydor LP (first pressing)
    2. SHM-SACD
    3. Steven Fallone tracks
    4. Original CD
    ...
    8. Universal remaster (Suha Gur)

Thanks. I may have to pick up the regular SHM or platinum hoping it is the same mastering as the SACD.

By the way, the quality of SACD covers (last editions) got worse - cardboard has become thinner.

I am pretty sure that for the recent "HR cutting" discs, the SACD, SHM-CD, and SHM platinum CDs all have the same mastering.

I am curious about this one too, but I haven't quite pulled the trigger yet. I'd be more inclined if I knew the whole catalog was going to get this treatment, but so far, it's just this one and DtC.

They should be the same, although some people are claiming that some of the platinum CDs are better than the SACDs. I don't know what to think. Sounds like a mess. That is why I have not bought any, either.

Some platinum CDs have different masters than the SACDs. Dire Straits s/t, Wishbone Ash, Derek & the Dominoes, Allman Bros., to name a few.

Someone asked for the DR rating of this album. I have the standard SHM-CD, not the SACD, but I would be extremely surprised if the mastering were different. Anyway, here goes:
