Picked up another couple of RLs today, to my surprise: Steeley Dan's Gaucho, Hendrix's Cry of Love (slightly scuffed), and Bowie's Tonight. I didn't see the latter on the updated list, but it's definitely an RL.
Drinkin TNT and Smokin' Dynamite Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. But the UK issue only. The US was mastered by someone else and doesn't sound as good. Go figure. Actually, I do know why. Bill Wyman took the tapes to New York to Sterling to master for the UK first issue. Bob Ludwig did the first issue, but it was for the UK. The US was done later.... Occasionally he has done stuff he did not sign. The 12" promo single of "Start me Up" is an example. That's a HUGE sounding record.
Just to add: I saw a beat-up Black in Black, a Rainbow Bridge, and a Koln Concert. The last only has RL on the first side. Significant?
I know this is a year old question, but I noticed last night that my copy of Dionne Warwick's "Golden Hits 2" has the STERLING stamp on one side, and RL on the other. The weird thing about this album is that everything sounds great...except Dionne Warwick. The accompanying music and background singers are incredibly realistic, with deep bass and excellent percussion, but Dionne's voice distorts on almost all the vocal peaks. There seems to be very little compression, and her voice is very dynamic, so it sounds like it was cut so the quiet parts wouldn't be too quiet, but it crushed the vocal peaks.
I now have Roxy Music's Flesh+Blood in a Japan vinyl and the US with the RL in the dead wax. While the US is excellent, there's very little difference to these ears. Someone did say that in general Japanese is good, so who knows? It would be nice to know from someone here any particular things to listen out for on this album in the RL version so I can see how it compares. I'd be happier to have RL's Avalon, though. as that gets the rave reviews here.
fyi: A deep A/B between The Nightfly MFSL vs. RL and Gaucho MCA Audiophile vs RL and RL is a notch down on both (but still fine pressings).
This is as good a place as any to make my first post. Anthrax-Persistence Of Time is not on the list. It doesn't have RL inscribed in the deadwax. It's hand written Masterdisk DMM and on the jacket says mastered by Bob Ludwig. This was a day of release purchase so I have to assume it's done by him. Sounds great.
Does yours have an "RL" on both sides? I have only been able to find a one sided RL. Just wondered if a double RL existed.
You can add another Blackfoot album to the list: my "Marauder" has an "RL" and a "Masterdisk" in the deadwax.
a few more for the list Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Red Black & Green Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Virgo Red The JB's - Food For Thought James Brown - Get On The Good Foot James Brown - Hell James Brown - Revolution Of The Mind Al Di Meola - Land of the Midnight Sun Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy Al Di Meola - Casino Al Di Meola - Electric Renzdezvous Peggy Lee - Mirrors (no deadwax inscription but credited on cover)
Yes it does! I just picked up in excellent (looking) condition Thin Lizzy Johnny the Fox LP with shrink wrap still attached. It has RL on both sides. I can't wait tp spin this!!
I found an Al Stewart -Modern Times on Janus side A has stamped Sterling and RL. Til Tuesday-Everything's Different Now with Ludwig mastering credit on inner sleeve notes but just handwritten Masterdisk in dead zone. This is a great sounding record. Last three LP's I got at GW were all RL and I didn't realize til now...Spike,Everything's Different Now,Sinner...and Saint Going to check boxes for more!
The Al Kooper 5.1 mix layer of the new Child Is Father To The Man SACD. I think Bob did a great job on this.
add dust "self titled" lp to the list--1971-kama sutra records--rl-sterling in dead wax on both sides..heavy with drummer from the ramones!!
Picked up a mint (meaning unplayed) promo copy of John Hartford's "Morning Bugle" the other day -- RL/Sterling in the deadwax.
