(KPIX 5) — Fans of the popular NCIS series may be surprised when a regular character shows up with a new hair-do, but it’s not just a fashion choice.
Abby Sciuto, whose goth-black hairstyle has been a trademark for her character could begin season 12 as a blonde, due to an allergic reaction to hair dye.
Actress Polly Perrette, who plays Sciuto had a bad reaction to the dye after a decade of using it. Her natural hair color is blonde.
Perrette tweeted a picture from a hospital bed, saying “My head swelled up like a huge melon,” while warning that people should “Know the symptons. It can be fatal.”
Season 12 of NCIS hasn’t started filming. The actress could end up wearing a black wig, or sporting her natural blonde locks.

KCAL9's Kristine Lazar spoke with Perrette, whose character, Abby Sciuto, is known for her raven locks. But the actress may soon be wearing a wig.

I never liked the pseudo goth/ punk look on her, anyways.

BTW - Perrette is one of the most popular actors/ actresses on prime time TV.

Why not shave her head? Go for the skinhead punk look.

She WAS once bald. And pulled it off so well, too.

I was expecting for awhile now. My neighbor got cancer from using black hair
dye she almost died . Pauley said she noticed bumps on her head
for a year? I saw interview a few minutes ago.
Not to swift. I hope her doctors did a cancer screening
It's very possible all those years of black hair dye.
There are numerous articles about it . It's her fault
    and producers.

:( I love the goth look on women. If my wife went blond, she'd be the splitting image of Kirsten Dunst!

A bit overblown, don't you think? How many women dye their hair jet black with no problem? Tons.

Not really Doctors have been warning about black hair dye
for years and all these goths it's types for most
of them have their hair black as statement.
I don't follow the crowd, but, I due pay attention.

I'm gonna love the character of Abi Sciutto regardless of her hair color!

Just don't let the crew that worked on LOST handle any of the wig-related duties. Yowza.

Can't they just borrow the wig from the infamous film "Samurai Cop?"

Always enjoyed her character, but her loveable eccentricity seemed to have become a little bit of a caricaturization last season.

The whole "perky goth" thing got really annoying, really fast for me.

Last season? I think it's been for a long time and extremely cartoonish and annoying. Not nearly as annoying as the one on criminal Minds.

Dyed black hair + vaguely "alternative" clothes from Hot Topic = Goth

    Right??

I don't recall Abby's initial characterization being so cartoonish and 'immature' - becoming just too cute, e.g., the infamous spider-web parasol.

When Criminal Minds shifted course from interersting 'whodunnits' to sick serial killers, I checked out.

Nobody is really likeable on Criminal Minds. The head guy reminds me of Lurch the way he's so emotional.
