Does the Criterion version of W.C. Field's "The Bank Dick" have any advantage over the version included in Universal's box set "W.C. Fields Comedy Collection" (e.g. a better picture)?

The only advantage the Criterion Bank Dick has is that you can sell it on eBay for $10 more than its original MSRP and get the W.C. Fields Comedy Collection Vol. 2 with the proceeds. :)

An ironic bit of sarcasm thrown at Criterion. Mr Fields is chuckling in his grave.

Now spinning tonight on the US collection I.

And after more than few views I'm convinced the Universal is a bit cleaner than the Criterion.

What gives Criterion??? Huh? More money, less quality??? Guess I'm glad I sold mine for a profit recently.

One thing I've not compared is the region 2 WC Collection set I have, but that requires me to pull out my region free player from storage. Someday soon. Any comments on that release?

    I love WC no matter.

This thread made me order the Fields comedy collection. 10 films for $13.50! I hope the image quality doesn't suffer with 3 films a disc.

The entire contents of volume 1 and 2 of Universals sets are in a new collection you can buy for ten bucks at Walmart. They look ok to me.

Wal-Mart had the set for something like 11 bucks about a year ago -- probably no longer in their inventory, but that's where I grabbed mine. A great buy.

(edit: Jamie posted at the same time. The set I got is identical to the one on Amazon.)

One of the comments says that they removed the trailers. I've got both Universal sets plus the two Criterion releases, so i'll stick with those.

Both of the previous Universal sets had five discs each, and this has three total. That's worrisome.

The quality of both original Universal sets is beyond reproach, in my book, and I'm a 50+ year fan.

Yes but this thread inspired me to pick it up - 10 films for $13 was too good to pass up since I don't have any of them.

I'm hoping the condensed comp will look as good!
