One of my all-time favorites on vinyl, from 1984 - Small Town Romance

Any news on whether this will be released on vinyl?

I've seen no mention anywhere, so far. Sure hope they do...

Wow, this is an EXTRAORDINARY collection. I don't think I've ever heard Richard sing so well, or so passionately, and the song selection is excellent. This should become the "go to" collection for any one new to RT's music who's seeking one disc to see what he's about...

Bonus points for listening to this for my first time at midnight, during perhaps the most dazzling lightning show I've ever seen!

Wonder if RT's site will make a download available, as with other self-released titles? I believe those were at least 320kbps MP3s if not lossless also.

Received my copy yesterday. Gave it a spin in the car on the way to work this morning. Sounds very good. Can't wait to hear this on the home system.

Last time I saw RT play it was just he and his guitar in a club and, as is often the case, he was on fire with these songs.

I know this came out officially this week on Tues. so glad to see some mention here. As an aside, I did a search on "richard thompson" earlier this week and this thread did NOT show up in my results for some reason (!) so I'm glad that there is a thread on the new album.

I give the cd 4 stars out of 5. Beeswing and 1952 VBL are a little too similar to the studio versions.

  12. Well..maybe great performances but sound? Hopefully they will master this better than his last couple of albums.

The man himself disagrees, which is why it's permenantly out of print. Too bad, I also love it-- I have the short lived CD with a few bonus tracks. (Forum member Bobby Sutliff did a killer electric version of the title song).

I actually prefer this version of 'Beeswing', better vocal for me.

I should have posted earlier but thanks guys for alerting me to this release.
Long time RT & Richard & Linda fan.
I have lots of his vinyl and most of his CDs, SACD, etc.
The frenetic posting pace here means that a thread like this is on page 16.
Mine will arrive tomorrow, can't wait.
I've seen him many times in many venues, always brilliant.

I saw RT in concert last night at the Warwick Folk Festival. I thought he was outstanding. Close enough to the front to see his guitar work and I still can't figure out how he gets the sound he does :)

I wrote a brief review here:

Seeing him live also increased my appreciation for the new album. A must-have IMO (if you like RT).

Picked up this set at one his '90s shows; still play it often. One of my favorite RT albums. Definitely worth seeking out.

Got this today and gave it a listen after work.
    Brilliant.
Richard as I like him. Totally clean & crankable.
No need to get into the specific performances vs anything previous.
Another gem that will be over looked by the masses, 'cept us.

I have it and dig it, absolutely worth seeking out this two disc set.

They just delivered my CD, on a Sunday even! Gonna warm up the home system and have a listen.

I also broke out the magnifying glass (literally) to see that it was mixed and mastered by Simon Tassano at Rumiville in Austin, TX

Found out about Richard late when a friend bought me a ticket to a live show. Been to see him every time he's returned. Out in Hawaii, he doesn't bring a band, usually just him and bassist Danny Thompson, so I'm accustomed to these songs in acoustic versions. Happy to have this, especially the solo "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight.," though I do prefer the ending of "Valerie" from Two Letter Words.
His ability on guitar really is spotlit on this CD.

Unfortunately the sound is as compressed as ever, a real shame given that an acoustic performance like this (excellent, BTW) could really shine sonically given the chance. Oh well...

Slightly off topic, but it looks like ORG plan to do a 45rpm issue of Shoot Out the Lights mastered by Bernie Grundman. Sure I saw a few preorder pages online a few weeks back, but can't find them now.

    Bemagnus Music is fun

Terrific album - he brings new life to hos old classics. Of course wondruous guitar and perhaps the best vocals I ever heard from RT. Give this album 6 out of 5. Music don t get any better
