I hope I'm wrong too. But I fear I'll be right.

Thr consensus I have heard is that Shades mono is a fold--I don't have it, but I've followed all discussions here on it. Somone on a dp forum claimed it was not a fold but had no details, someone here had a copy and couold hear no noticeable proof it was a unique mix

Amazon has not provided any DR or potential NR information yet, either.

Amazon lists it as an import. That usually means buying it from amazon.co.uk will be cheaper and faster.

I just listen to Deep Purple's 3rd album "Deep Purple". I only have the EMI remaster to compare DR range of the eight songs: DR 8, 10, 11, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10

    The new remaster has DR 11, 12, 12, 10, 11, 11, 12, 12. Doesn't match the original CD, but sounds better!!!

Great liner notes and interviews with Nic Simper and engineer Derek Lawrence

    Newly remastered by Andy Pearce.

Impressive numbers. I may have to reconsider if the first two albums are improved significantly.

Well, the original CD has a DR range btw 11 and 13, slightly higher. But the transfer and mastering sounds clearer without the bad compression on the Made in Japan box set. They also designed the original LP artwork on the CD itself.... nice!

I think Shades of Deep Purple has a slightly higher dynamic range than the original CD. The 2014 CD has DR 11-12.

Did Andy Pearce remaster the whole box?

I'm not sure...... he definitely mastered the stereo and mono tracks. I don't know if he also mastered the bonus tracks (remixes etc)

  16. Interesting. I'll probably get this then. I like Deep Purple Mark I quite a bit, has a special 60's flair.

Andy Pearce has done some nice work in the past.

I think Andy Pearce has been more miss than hit, really. Only a few of his Black Sabbath remasters are any good.

But using him is at least a move in the right direction.

But is it as good as the original EMI's ie the 20p2's etc, and has noise reduction be used (please, I want hiss damn it :)) How have you managed to hear the new set yet, I thought it wasn't out till next week ??

That's what I was thinking too - I must've been half asleep and thought 'How did I miss all the posts on this..?' Then I went on Amazon and saw.

Does it list all of the singles? If so, where is the non-album single "Hallelujah?" And I've always wondered why the American market changed the title of "Wring That Neck" to "Hard Road."

As someone who generally dislikes remasters, I really love the sound of the first Japanese pressings for the MK 1 albums.
